“If the Lord wills” ….. This is what we are taught in James 4:13-15 that gives us a true perspective on making plans. Truly, we go here and there, “if the Lord wills”. Nothing is guaranteed. And so, when we said “yes” to a mission trip as a family this summer, we didn’t say “yes” to Cuba we said “yes” to God and the church.

We learned last week that Cuba will NOT happen for us as political issues arise and our religious visas would not get approved. There’s a lot happening there that makes it unwise for us to travel. And so, it is with great joy and delight that we offer the same “yes” to Puerto Rico!!! We have the honor of partnering with Christians in Puerto Rico who are STILL rebuilding after one of the deadliest disasters in U.S. history landed upon their island. Hurricane Maria killed thousands, a number that is still disputable, and the citizens of Puerto Rico were largely abandoned by the U.S. administration. They feel forgotten and their sorrow is still raw even as we approach the two year anniversary.

Do you want to be a part of loving our neighbors, of sharing the Gospel, of working toward rebuilding and bringing love to those who may feel forgotten in the name of Jesus? We are IN THIS TOGETHER!

Here’s what our kids think:

I’ve never been on a mission trip before. We haven’t been exposed to poverty outside of Texas really, so like, I think seeing this will be formative for me. It’s not ok that they were abandoned after the hurricane.

I’m excited to go because I have never been to Puerto Rico before and because I can be a better Spanish speaker. I think God wants to teach me to help them.
— Gus (9)
Well, I have been on a mission trip to South Texas for hurricane relief and it was amazing to build relationships with others during the reconstruction process. I am excited to meet new people and experience the Puerto Rican culture. I’ve only been out of the country once for a vacation, this is exciting because it will be a totally different experience. I think God wants to show me more humility through this trip.
