August Temple/Killeen Update
From City Team Leader Lauren:
July has been such a sweet month of rest. This month, I have been studying the book of Acts, and has been a wonderful season of growth and learning. I’ve also been refreshed by much-needed time with family and encouraged by several really great meetings with people who have a desire to serve alongside us. Praise God!
I am reminded of the period of time after Christ ascended. Peter is addressing the crowd of skeptics, proclaiming that Christ is the Messiah, the one promised to them all this time. The scripture says “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’”
This verse says that the crowd was “Cut to the heart,” sharply pierced and pained to their inner core. As Acts is the record of the early church, this verse shows people hearing the Gospel and then asking, “Now what?” It’s clear that this kind of love and power demands a response from us.
The apostles’ response was to:
1) Build their team
2) Go and tell others
3) Help others build their own teams to go and tell more people.
This is a start to a journey, one that we carry on now. As I think of and pray for our women, I also pray that we wouldn’t lose sight of this ultimate mission. Our story is to GO. LOVE. CONNECT. Go to the women, love them where they are, connect them to community resources and the church.
After Jesus ascended into heaven, the first thing the apostles did was assemble their team. In a similar way, I ask you to join me in praying for the people who will be on our team. I am still looking for leaders to serve on our hospitality, babysitting, bag assembly, and prayer teams. If you are skilled in baking, organizing, child care, or really just have a heart to serve in this ministry, we definitely have a place for you.
I am looking for five church partnerships by the end of August. Please pray that churches would be open to hearing about JSL and excited about reaching the women in our city. Pray that people would begin to be stirred for the women and would have a great desire to partner with JSL.
As our first outreach in December quickly approaches, pray for management and the women. Pray that the Lord would already begin revealing himself to them.
Thank you so much for praying with us. I am constantly reminded how beautiful the Church is and how much power is present when we come together in prayer. Thank you for your faithfulness in supporting us.
