October Waco Update
This month has been busy! We have gained several new team members and Baylor Social Work interns. We have a lot to look forward to on the horizon for JSL which is extremely exciting! We are still continuing to fight hard against the barriers that keep us from serving our women such as transportation, job placement and overall issues of poverty. We know that it is not easy and continue to rely on God to provide direction and make miracles happen!
For this month, Domino’s donated all the pizza and drinks to deliver to the clubs. We had wonderful volunteers, Frances Abrams, Kyndall Boykin, and Amanda Berger, that made homemade desserts, and the Mission Friends group at First Baptist Church Woodway supplied and assembled beautiful lipsticks for all the women. This was our first outreach where the clubs had made adjustments to be in compliance with the new Waco city ordinances, so one dancer gave the club team a tour of the new remodeled Sonny’s and educated us on the rules under the new ordinances.
They team talked with old friends, and we able to meet several new ones as well. On the way out the door at one club, a woman affected by the West explosion a little over a year ago mentioned that JSL had given her a gift card at that time and that it had been extremely impactful. We were very grateful to meet her and to see that she is doing well!
There were interesting changes at each club that made for an exciting and informative outreach. The team was pleasantly surprised to be greeted in a more positive manner than the last few months at one of the clubs. Some familiar faces were missing at some places and others reappeared at some.
We have been overwhelmed and blessed by the response of volunteers interested in serving with JSL over this past month. Currently, we would really like to focus on building up the prayer team. We can not do what we do without prayer...lots of it. We would love to grow our prayer team have a group of committed prayer warriors to join together to cover the outreach each month. Outreach occurs once a month and childcare can be provided if needed. Our prayer team plays a crucial and necessary role in every outreach!
Thank you to:
Dominos Pizza: donating pizzas and drinks for outreach night
Mission Friends and First Baptist Church Woodway: donating and assembling lipstick gifts for outreach
Frances Abrams, Kyndall Boykin and Amanda Berger: providing homemade desserts for outreach
Susan Peters: for all her invitation and opportunities to attend World Mandate
On the calendar:
Highland Baptist Church Waco is hosting their first 5K walk event called “We Walk” on October 12th which will benefit Jesus Said Love, Generations Adoptions and Mission Waco. We would LOVE to have your support and presence at this event. Check out the website at www.wewalk.me. It is a great opportunity to not only get a little exercise, but to pray over our city and to support three wonderful Waco ministries.
My prayer is that our Waco team continues to grow, especially our prayer team, and that God continues to open doors with community partners in order to better serve our women.
