June City Updates

DALLAS UPDATE

Snapshot:

  • 200 pairs of flip flops
  • 4 Dallas clubs

Story:

June was a sweet time for flip flops, vacations, and conversations with friends. Outreach was full of anticipation as our volunteer count was low due to mission trips and summer vacation. The night started with our new Prayer Team Leader, Stephanie, and the prayer team (which is growing!) covering us in prayer prior to us leaving.

One of our Club Teams headed to two of our clubs and once again was not allowed to enter the dressing room (this has been occurring since the spring). However, we are persistent as we continue to leave our gifts and show love and grace. Upon reaching the second club we were greeted with welcoming smiles and laughter. The team was able to listen, love, and pray with several of our friends. The team also learned that one of the bartenders, which had not been seen in quite a while, had returned. She told our Club Team Leader that she had left to get sober. Per our team she looked great and seemed to be doing well; please be in prayer that she continues to do well and does not relapse due to the environment.

Our other Club Team headed to the other two clubs. Upon arriving at the first club, we quickly learned the House Mom’s mother had recently been placed in hospice, please keep them both in your prayers during this season of life. As the evening went on we met new girls and visited with old friends. We were sitting and chatting with one of our friends when she started looking for her earbuds so that she could listen to music while getting ready. She was unable to find her earbuds and one of our Club Team members said she would be happy to sing some hymns for her. “Yes! Do you know ‘Shelter in the Time of Storm?’” Our sweet Club Team member beautifully begin singing the hymn. I looked in the mirror and our sweet friend was singing right along with her. What a beautiful moment to watch these sweet ladies worship the Lord in the middle of the dressing room; as always, we claim these dressing rooms as Holy ground!

The team headed out to the next club, a club this particular team had never been to before- the team that normally visits this club was on a mission trip to Haiti. It still was a sweet visit with our friends. We did learn that the House Mom at this club had a miscarriage and lost her twins. Please be in prayer for her as she was not ready to talk about it with anyone yet; also pray that she will reach out to our team when she is ready to talk.

City Needs:

  • Continued financial support for the Dallas budget for 2017
  • Prayer team growth

KILLEEN UPDATE

Snapshot:

  • 25 pairs of flip flops
  • 2 oscillating fans
  • 1 case of water

Story:

Our June outreach started out as a hot one. As soon as we walked into the club we could tell something was up. The girl at the front desk immediately told us "The AC is out." Walking onto the floor to get back to the dressing room, it felt a little better. We looked around to see that the club had rented some giant AC fans for the floor, in an attempt to keep the customers cool. When we got back to the dressing room, we felt it. Hair dryers, and straighteners, 15 people's worth of body heat, and we were adding 3 more people to that. There were two tiny fans working hard, but it was hot. It was not a pleasant feeling. Some of the girls told us the stage lights were so hot that they were having to come off the stage and get water during their performance time. We had brought some snacks and flip flops for the girls this time, but it didn't feel like it was enough.

We told the girls we'd be right back and went to the dollar store a few miles away. We bought some circulating fans and a case of water and took them back to the dressing room. As soon as we walked in the girls let out a cheer.

"You really do love us!" and "Oh we love you girls!" As we took the fans out of the box, the girls helped us assemble them. We overheard a girl we had just met ask one of the girls who knows us well - "I can't believe they would bring us fans?! Why would they do that?" And she was answered with a "Oh yeah, these are our church ladies!"

This month we took 25 pair of flip flops into the club, two oscillating fans, and a case of water. We met two new girls who have only been there for the month of June.

HOUSTON UPDATE

Snapshot:

  • 160 pairs of Old Navy flip flops
  • 3 Houston clubs
  • 12 Prayer and Club Team members

Story:

This month started with amazing provision by our bag team leader getting ALL of the flip flops donated by friends and fellow church members. Such a blessing!!!!  Before the evening started our Prayer Team leaders prayer echoed in my heart - "God, may where we walk be holy ground. We are carrying You and Your authority in each of us. May we bring your ground-shaking love that leaves an eternal imprint on these women and men's lives!!"

As we walked into the first club the imprint of us being there was revealed to us by one of the receptionist wearing our old "Jesus Loves Strippers" shirt. It was great to see her boldly proclaiming that to all the women and men that would walk past her that evening. The ladies loved all of the beautiful colors of flip flops we brought and some commented that they still have theirs from last year along with their nail polish. It's so great to know that the gifts we bring are like seeds planted in these women's lives. There were great conversations and reconnections with our team and some of the women. One women had a praise report of her kids doing better after we prayed for her in the dressing room last month.

Finally, three of our team members were able to attend a one-year-old birthday celebration of one of the House Mom’s daughter. They had an amazing time connecting, eating great food, and seeing their new beautiful home. Another praise report came from this same woman - her husband starts a new job July 11th after being unemployed for months. She told me that she trusted God to come through for her family and that He would be faithful! He always is.

June was a sweet summer outreach - the girls were very appreciative of the flip flops. Upon arriving, we were greeted with many hugs and familiar faces. There was a girl who we have met on several outreaches and she said to one of the newer girls, “I love the Jesus Said Love ladies. They are one of the only groups I have met who don’t judge us for dancing and will help you out with anything.” We made a follow-up connection with the new girl, as she was wanting information on relationship counseling. She is being connected with counseling services through JSL.

May City Updates

DALLAS UPDATE

Snapshot:

  • 200 Lovely Tea Towels gifted with 200 Bibles
  • 4 clubs visited

Story:

While May outreach was few in volunteers, we know that God can do mighty things with small numbers. The Lovely tea towels and Bibles were a hit with the ladies.

Our night was filled with smiles, tears, and laughter at the clubs as the ladies shared.

One of the women mentioned she was graduating with teaching degree! For her, this meant no more dancing at the club - we celebrated!

Another young girl had just returned after she had an incident involving abuse - we listened and loved.

One of the other women shared photos of her kids with us as she discussed their plans for Mother’s Day - we smiled and were filled with joy.

The House Mom shared sonogram pictures of her sweet babies to come - we celebrated excited for her baby shower quickly approaching.

From others we received phone numbers so that we could connect outside the club throughout the month. It was a sweet evening.

Once more, we were only able to leave gifts at the fourth club. Please continue to pray that management would eventually allow us to stay and visit with our friends.

In each club we saw smiles, happiness, and brokenness - but it was surrounded by the Light and Love of Jesus. He knows us, He knows them, and we celebrate in this blessed community.

    HOUSTON UPDATE

    Snapshot:

    • 160 Hand Made Vanilla Sugar Scrubs with Lovely Tea Towels
    • 3 clubs served
    • 14 Prayer and Club Team volunteers

    Story:

A special thanks goes out to the women of Grand Parkway Baptist Church for making the sugar scrubs for our ladies.

Friday night as I sent out my normal text messages to the management (making them aware we're on our way) I received a wonderful text back from one of them saying, "Okay thanks for your help and support". It reminded me that JSL not only reaches the women, but also the men involved in this industry with the love and support we bring the women. I’m reminded of the scripture in the Bible where Jesus said, "if you've done it for the least of these, you've done it for me." These women and men according to society are “the least”, but God says when we serve them were actually serving Him and it shows with all the smiles and gratitude expressed by both the women and the men when we show up at the clubs.

One of the young girls I connected with is desperately looking for other work and is struggling as a single mom. I know that struggle all too well and I encouraged her to reach out to us so we can help her with resources and she did! I’m looking forward to seeing how we can work together!

Another one of our Club Team members spoke to a woman that recently gave her life to Jesus and was very excited about her future! We also reconnected with some women we had not seen in awhile and saw lots of are familiar faces of the women we know! Additionally, the house mom at one of our clubs is celebrating her baby’s her first birthday in June and her family is actually moving near me, so we'll be neighbors! I am thankful that with each month, we continue to connect and grow toward one another.

    City Needs:

    • Monthly Outreach Sponsors

    • Pray for healing for two outreach team members. One who had back surgery and one has chronic back pain.

    • Pray for the women that are taking the steps to exit the sex industry

    • Prayer for the hearts of those that are touched to give to JSL and what God is doing for His daughters all over Texas

    • Prayer for the future of JSL in Houston to fill in the gaps that will help the women transition out of the sex industry

    WACO UPDATE

    Snapshot:

    • 24 Lovely Tea Towels gifted

    Story:

Mother’s Day outreach is always a special one. This year we entered the Waco club as a small team of two. While we didn’t know what to expect, it turned out to be the perfect size for Club Team that evening. We were able to reconnect with several familiar faces as well as some new ones.

We are reminded of the reality of how many moms work at the club when we met a new girl that night. She said she had worked in the clubs before, but not for a while. “Now I’m back because I have kids,” she said. The majority do. We continued to talk with more of the other women, checking on how they were and how their kids were - some of their children are close and others are states away.

Some of our other friends gave up updates on their health - one mentioned her back as she has five bulging discs, leaving her in quite a bit of pain - prayers are appreciated for her. With another friend we celebrated as she’s been clean for a year now! “It’s all because of God helping me that I’ve stayed clean.”

We cry together, we celebrate together, we are so thankful for the opportunity to do life together.

    April City Updates

    DALLAS UPDATE

    Snapshot:

    • 200 LOVE bags gifted
    • 4 clubs visited
    • 21 volunteers

    Story:

Prior to us heading out for outreach on Good Friday, our team of volunteers took time to reflect on our Lord and the sacrifice He gave so freely. We spent time in prayer and communion preparing our hearts for a night of showing His love, grace, and mercy.

We had a great night filled with smiles, laughter, hugs, and conversation. Just a group of girlfriends sharing stories of joy, hurt, and life.

We have been asking since January for prayers regarding not being able to personally deliver gifts to the dressing room of one of our clubs. On Good Friday evening, 6 volunteers armed with 60 LOVE bags approached the front door and were greeted by one of the managers (as we have been since January). After he asked us to leave the bags at the door, I asked if I could leave my number for the general manager to so we could talk more about the situation, and just as I did the general manager greeted us at the door! After a few minutes of discussion, he agreed to let us take the gifts back, but we would not be allowed to stay and visit. We were thrilled. The moment we entered the dressing rooms, the girls came like a flood to see us - tears, smiles, hugs.  The Lord opened the door and our prayer now is that the door remain open and that with each outreach we will be able to stay longer.

Thank you, for praying for the Dallas Team!

    City Needs:

    • Financial support for the Dallas budget for 2017
    • Church partnerships
    • Prayer for Club Team members' commitment to stay strong
    • Prayers for continued support as women continue to transition out of the industry

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 156 LOVE bags gifted

      Story:

The words that come to my heart that best describe April's Good Friday outreach are "tragedy" and "triumph".  Tragedy struck our team when we found out that our bag team leaders mother went to be with the Lord three days before outreach. As we prayed and reached out for help to complete the bags for outreach the Lord triumphantly provided us with an amazing team/family consisting of a mother and her two teenage daughters that put all the bags together along with my mother and teenage daughter that put the JSL tags on the bags. I was praying for the Lord to make a way and He did!!

Our next challenge was that our Club Team was missing four volunteers. How were the five of us going to do the heavy lifting of the 100+ LOVE bags? God continued to answer prayers by providing extra help via our Security Team guys and a new Club Team member. Our new volunteer is a survivor/overcomer like myself and the Lord was using the tragedy of her past to triumphantly bring the love of Jesus to His daughters-- the very same Love that radically changed her life. The night was full of tragic stories from the women of loss, abuse, exploitation, hopelessness and the continued stories of the perpetual darkness they are encountering daily-- but in the midst of the darkness, the triumphant light of Christ's love was brought by being able to love on them, lavish them with gifts, encourage them, and pray with them. Good Friday was the day Jesus fully understood that He would do the will of His father and walk through the tragedy of the cross in order to triumphantly defeat sin and death. His love for us held Him on the cross and His love for us is able to bring life to things that were once dead.

A special thanks to Hope Church Houston for making the April outreach possible with their gift of financial provision.

I want to express my overwhelming gratitude to the mother/daughter team and my mom and daughter who helped be the hands and feet of Jesus for our women who were all blown away from the outpouring of love that were in each of the LOVE Bags.

I had women reach out through our website and through text message thanking us for doing what we do and for loving them so faithfully right where they are.

      • Pray for our Bag Team leader and her family as they grieve their loss

      • Pray for our women who are trapped in the cycle of darkness

      • Pray for each of our volunteers and their families to be protected, encouraged and strengthened

      WACO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 24 LOVE Bags Gifted

      Story:

Easter is one of the best outreaches and the girls are always a fan of the LOVE bags. The whole outreach was powerful. We had one girl reach out for assistance through JSL in regards to individual counseling as well as marriage counseling. Club Team members relayed JSL’s contact information to her and assured her we were there to provide assistance with what she needed.

We also received an update from another woman who was living in a hotel with her husband and two-year-old daughter. She was able to move into a home in a safe neighborhood. JSL volunteers were able to donate clothes, new beds, sheets, comforters, and pillows because their hotel room was infested with bed bugs. She was incredibly thankful and excited to see our team at outreach.

Our Prayer Team is also growing. Prayer was strong that night and we could feel the presence while on outreach at the club.

      • 200 colorful gifts of nail polish

      Story:

March Outreach was filled with sweet gifts of colorful nail polish wrapped with ribbon! The nail polish is always a hit and such a great conversation starter as to which color to choose, what is your favorite color, etc...

As always we were greeted with smiles and laughter  in three of our clubs.

Once again, we were only able to leave gifts at our fourth club; however the house mom came out to receive the gifts and stated that she would relay to our friends we loved them. Please continue to pray that the management of this club will allow us to actually stay and visit with our friends even if it is for a few minutes.

We also celebrated as one of our house moms informed us she is expecting and its twins! Please be in prayer over her and her sweet blessings.

      City Needs:

      • Financial support for the Dallas budget for 2017
      • Church partnerships

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 160 nail polishes and nail files gifted

      Story:

Depth and width are the words that come to my heart when I think about our March outreach. There was a longer stretch between our outreaches since the Super Bowl came in early February, so we were all excited to reconnect with our friends this month. The depth of conversation was incredible! A women was pouring her heart out to one of our team members about recent tragic events unfolding in her life and said that in the midst of it she knows that she is called to forgive, but is struggling with how to do that. They also talked about church and she mentioned having a difficult time. Often whenever she revealed to her community where she works, they would not accept her. Right before our team member prayed over her she said, "you know why I work here...it's because I'm broken and everyone here is broken, so I feel like I fit in." Wow. Such a profound and deep statement!

Later that evening, I was reminded of the deep heartache over two deaths that occurred at this club; one, a husband of a waitress (who we knew well), who died of cancer and the other was a driver the women had often trusted for a safe ride home, he had a massive heart attack. With each of these tragedies, we witnessed community. It was wonderful to see all the ladies rallying around their friend to help raise money to help with costs for expenses as well as helping the families. The width of love extended to the families of the ones that lost their loved ones was such a beautiful thing to witness.

At our next club, a sweet young woman told us about the horrors of the past couple of years, but in the midst of it all she said, "I feel and see God working on my behalf. Doing things that were impossible!" She was filled with hope and was grateful that God has been watching over her in her times of need.

At our last club one of the women who worked there had lost her battle with a horrible disease. With the deep loss and pain going on I saw the width and length and height of God’s presence and love through these women. They were hopeful and were coming together for the ones who lost loved ones. They were asking for prayers, they were touched by the fragility of life, and they were being held up by something and someone bigger than themselves. It was so great to see how they genuinely missed us and how happy they were to see us.

I know we are called to love on them, but they sure know how to love us.

      City Needs:

      • April Outreach : that all we're giving as gifts would be provided

      • Prayers for job interviews for the ladies transitioning out of the industry

      • Prayers for the individuals who have lost loved ones

      • Prayers for Club Team members to continue to have life-giving conversations

      • Prayers for those who exploit the women. Pray the scales removed from their eyes and heart.

      • Prayer for the Prayer Team, Security Team, Bag Team, and Love Team

      • Prayer for a revival in the hearts of the women. May they encounter the depth, width and height of God’s love for them.

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 200 Psalm 46:5 Prints
      • 200 Handmade chocolate covered strawberries
      • 19 Volunteers

      Story:

Love”,  our February outreach was filled with it.

The enemy was hitting our team hard this month, as many of our volunteers were unable to make it due to illness, trips, and unexpected events. However, we headed out to the clubs with 12 women and 7 Security Team volunteers to drive us.

As we entered the clubs we were greeted with smiles, hugs, and laughter. We enjoyed hearing about an upcoming anniversary/birthday trip from one of our house moms. At another club we were able to meet a new house mom and she stated she felt called to “love” these girls, and she was thankful to do it as a house mom.

This month we were able to deliver our gifts to the dressing room of our fourth club, but we were only allowed to stay a few minutes. This is always very discouraging to our team, but we’re thankful that we have been able to leave the gifts as well as see the girls for a brief moment the last two months.

Although it seemed the enemy was on attack with the outreach, God is always in total control of these nights, and we were able to get the contact information of the owner of the fourth club. Please continue to pray that he will be open to meeting with us to discuss the issue of being able to stay longer than we have been.

Once again, as He was able to use us as His hands and feet as new relationships began and old relationships grew.

      City Needs:

      • Financial support for the Dallas budget for 2017
      • Church partnerships
      • Prayer for Club Team members' commitment to stay strong
      • Prayer for our Prayer and Security Teams
      • Prayers for continued support as women continue to transition out of the industry

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 35 Psalm 46:5 Prints gifted

      Story:

When we went into the club this month, things were a little different. Sometimes we forget that we're going into a place bathed in darkness. We have the mindset that we're simply going to visit our friends, so of course we’re surprised when things don't go as smoothly as we had imagined.

This month felt like we were relearning certain things. As soon as we got to the dressing room, we all felt something in the air - it was as if something negative had happened and lingered in the air right before we walked in. The thing is, sometimes the dressing room can be a tough place. Usually everyone is getting ready for a tiring, hard night of work. Our presence can sometimes be a nice distraction, but it doesn't mean the women in that room are free from doing what they have to do that night to pay their bills, put food on the table for their kids, pay for cell phones and child care and places to live. While we were given a lot of hugs this night, there was definitely a lack in actual smiles. It left us feeling heavy for these ladies. When we returned to our prayer team we took some time to pray over the ladies all together.

We had this beautiful, truthful moment where we had to recognize we weren't enough that night, and we aren't ever enough. God stands in places we can't - and it's right to depend on Him when we aren't able.

In Killeen/Temple, we're adding people to our club team, to our prayer team, and our volunteer list is growing - but we're still down a City Team Leader. Every month we feel this need more and more, as people come to volunteer and we have no one to organize them! This is a huge need for us right now. Pray about it and talk about Jesus Said Love to people, we believe the Holy Spirit will speak when He speaks!

      City Needs:

      • New City Team Leader for Temple/Killeen
      • Outreach sponsorship partners for 2017
      • Babysitting Team Leader and Hospitality Team Leader
      • Additional community partnerships and volunteers-- if you're interested in volunteering, go to jesussaidlove.com/volunteer and fill out a volunteer form!

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 60 Psalm 46:5 cards gifted
      • Met so many new friends!

      Story:

February, the month of LOVE! It was very slow in the clubs this evening. The first two clubs only had a handful of girls, but we were able to have great conversations with girls we had never met. Each month it becomes more evident, so many women are so tired of this industry; the exhaustion seeps in from day in and day out of people taking advantage of them, they are unable to trust even the ones closest to them. We encourage them, and listen, and love, and leave, desperately praying they meet sweet Jesus in the loneliness.

At the last club, we met one girl who had never met us before, but had heard so much about us. “I am so tired of this,” she said. “I just want to do something else, but I don't even know where to start.” This. This is why aftercare is such a big deal for us. If we can't help them with the next step, are we really helping?

I put her number in my phone and text her explaining we would LOVE to help her! As I turned to walk away she said “Thank you so much for this card. It's just what I needed.” I am praying she responds!

      City Needs:

      • Team members for all teams! If you are interested email michelle@jesussaidlove.com
      • We are in need of monthly sponsorships
      • Prayer team is specifically in great need!
      • Prayers for continual God encounters for the women
      • Prayers for relationships to continue to flourish at the clubs
      • Prayers for our current team members and their families

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 204 Lovely Mr. Postman Earrings gifted

      Story:

Houston was packed with hundreds of thousands of people during the days leading up to and after the Super Bowl. This brought in many new faces, new vibes, new conversations, and a new outlook of the industry in each club. There were women here from as far away as Hawaii. With at least double the amount of women working at each club, I am so thankful we increased the amount of gifts to bring! Our team was discouraged at points when some of the girls there rejected the gifts we brought, but we were glad to have brought them regardless. The atmosphere was definitely different in the sense that the women seemed focused with little interest in conversation. The club itself had a different atmosphere with an increase in security guards, “pay to park”, added entry fees and other costs; the house moms and dad at each club shared how exhausted they were by the extra business.

Although there were a few curveballs thrown our way, our team was still able to have meaningful conversations with some of the women and the majority of them were thankful for the earrings. I loved seeing some of the women putting them on as soon as they got a pair. One girl asked if I would put them on for her! This same girl proceeded to tell us that she stood up for us after January's outreach when another girl complained about us pushing a religious agenda. "That's not their agenda,” she explained. “They come in here to show us that they care and love us and that God loves all of us. We should be grateful that they faithfully come to see us and bring us wonderful gifts when they don't have to." She ended the conversation by saying she hasn't seen that girl since then.

Overall we were met with lots smiles and hugs at each club reminding us that despite the overwhelming darkness, the light is so much brighter and powerful!

      • 24 Psalm 46:5 Prints gifted

      Story:

This month we attended only one club, but still had great conversation with the girls there. One of the girls confided in our team that she is wanting to move and will need furniture donations. An outreach team member is in contact with her and will be providing the team with her needs as she receives updates.

We are hopeful to connect again with the same girls on our next outreach.

We are also beginning to grow and develop Prayer Team for Waco. This month we had three ladies attend and pray over outreach before we left. Beginning in March, we will be adding a Prayer Team Leader and another prayer team volunteer.

Needs: We are looking for committed volunteers to join our prayer team. If interested, please email waco@jesussaidlove.com.

      City Needs:

      • Church and community partnerships to continue and expand

      • Pray for doors to be opened for deepened relationship with the girls

      • Pray for the girls to feel a sense of peace and to develop trusting relationships with Club Team

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 200 gifts wrapped with love
      • 23 volunteers

      Story:

      Fresh.

The first outreach of 2017 was filled with 23 volunteers ready to Go, Love, Connect, and Pray! Our Prayer Team Leader was back in action (after back surgery) and gave us the word “fresh” for 2017! We are praying for a fresh spirit this year; a fresh commitment to loving and serving these amazing ladies.

Although our volunteer numbers were low, our spirit and love were fierce.

We set out to four of our clubs (we are still on a break from the two others) and we were greeted in the first three with smiles, laughter, and hugs. While it seemed slower than usual, the conversation was as lively as always.

Back in December, one of our club’s managerial staff asked that we leave our gifts at the door, however we were able to connect with the owner at his other club (which is also one of our clubs) and he told our club team leader we were always welcome.

As we re-entered this particular club, we explained that the owner had given us access the month before, and we were led back to the dressing room. However, shortly after entering the dressing room word was sent that the manager was overriding the owner and we were asked to leave. As we are attempting to contact the owner, please be in prayer for the owner to be reached and that the issue with the manager can be resolved.

Although this team was discouraged, the team quickly headed toward one of the other clubs to join the club team at that club.

      God’s presence ended this night!

One of our teams decided to pray together in the dressing room of their club and as they stood in a circle together, it began to grow.  Both the women and our Club Team held hands and called upon the Lord.

      Snapshot:

      • 25 CDs handed out

      Story:

It was my first time back on an outreach since December 2015. If I thought things would be different, this club has proved me wrong once again. As I walked by a girl engaged with two customers, I heard her heels clack together somewhere close to my head, and I maintained eye contact with the dressing room door. "My head and heart aren't ready," I thought. "I forgot how to do this."

I walked into the dressing room and immediately recognized her. There were mostly faces I didn't recognize, but I saw her so quick. Her dreadlocks were longer, and mine were too, so we talked about that for a while. I asked about her family, recalled so many details of her life - the Holy Spirit at work. I asked if she might like to trade a bead from my hair for a bead from her hair, and she gave me one of her coils of copper to wrap around one of my locs. I gave her a green ring from my hair that really was too big for her tiny dreads. I told her I would be praying for her sister, and I went to meet all the new girls.

So many new girls from a year ago. Killeen has a lot of turnover, and it's hard to feel like we really get to know the girls before there are new girls dropping in. But, I didn't forget how to do this. I had easy conversations with these women, as they prepared to do the job they had come to do.

As our other club team member and I walked out, our hearts were burdened as they often are on outreach nights. As we drove home we discussed all the new girls, our talks with them about how old they were, where they're from, how long they'll stay. We're learning that the Killeen sex industry is so transient, and very mysterious. Each time we go to the club, we are reminded that this commitment to this work isn't something that we do short term. We are in this for the long haul. The hard work of awakening hope in places where there is none isn't done in one night, or even 20 nights, or 50 nights. It takes as many nights as it takes. The Holy Spirit is sometimes a consuming fire, and sometimes a slow burn. But, as long as we carry His fire with us, we won't be snuffed out. (Isaiah 42:3)

      City Needs:

      • New City Team Leader for Temple/Killeen
      • Outreach sponsorship partners for 2017
      • Babysitting Team Leader and Hospitality Team Leader
      • Additional community partnerships and volunteers-- if you're interested in volunteering, go tojesussaidlove.com/volunteer and fill out a volunteer form!

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 60 lipsticks were given out to new and known women

      Story:

January is a good time! New, new, new is the theme that comes around in January. Funny enough, we actually saw some dear friends we have known since the beginning and hadn’t seen in a long time.

One of the managers (that has always been a huge supporter of ours) was working on this night. I asked him how he was and he said “Well, I have fought and beat 2 types of cancer and I’m here. So, I am doing good.” He also said January had started out a bit rough with the loss of a 24 year old manager at this club. He was hit and killed by a driver going the wrong way on his way home from work. He said everyone was taking it hard. “This guy was full of life and the kindest person you would meet. He taught me to live life to the fullest and travel and be kind to people”, the manager told me. I stood and prayed with him and told him if he or anyone else needed anything to please call.

Thank you Jesus, he has beat cancer twice. Jesus, be with the brokenhearted.

Later, I saw one of the house moms I haven’t spoken to in a couple of years. She was filling in for someone else and when she saw me said “My sister and I were just talking about you!” I met her, her sister, and her niece on our first back to school outreach in 2013. They had all started coming to church and over the year I was gone had changed numbers and lost contact. New numbers given, we are reconnected, and they will be coming back to church!

      Snapshot:

      • 160 lotions handed out
      • 3 Houston clubs
      • We have been blessed with a new venue to meet for our monthly outreach nights called The Source for Women which is less than 3-4 blocks from the clubs we serve in. This venue is also one of our Alliance Partners in the Houston community.

      Story:

Ironically, the new club that was added to our outreach is the same one I started working at eighteen years ago. Instead of your typical “house mom” in the dressing room they have a “house dad”. He went out of his way to pull me aside to thank me for all the love and support we bring the women. Later, directed me to the wall where our Jesus Said Love contact card is posted saying he encourages the women to reach out to us.

After leaving we received a call from him letting us know that we had left one of our bags behind and that he would keep it in his locker until we came to get it.

The evening got better when we arrived at our last club and the girl at the front door had our candle with the LOVE decal front and center at the desk. She also wanted to know how many volunteers served on our outreach team because she wanted to bless us with gift cards to Starbucks the next time we came. It was amazing to witness how His love truly shines in the darkness!

      City Needs:

      • Prayer for February 3 outreach as it will be during the Super Bowl weekend.

      • Prayer for a young woman we serve has kidney problems.

      • Pray for a waitress’ husband has cancer.

      • Prayer for connections to be made and conversations to grow.

      • JSL sponsorship partners who will make it possible to walk along side us to serve the women of Houston.

      • Prayer for an awakening of the hearts of the men attending and working in these clubs to see these women as God’s daughters.

      • Prayer for all the new leaders and dedicated volunteers on the Houston JSL team.

      WACO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 42 iced cookies from Vanilla Bean Bakery and JSL LOVE bags were gifted to women in the clubs.
      • 2 Waco clubs visited

      Story:

The girls really enjoyed the cookies and LOVE bags. At the first club, a girl informed us she was able to find additional employment outside the club, which resulted in her finding her own housing and ability to get a cell phone. At the second club, another woman expressed her desire to leave the club and to find other employment. Club team members are following up with both contacts.

We are hopeful to connect again with the same girls on our next outreach.

      City Needs:

      • We are looking for committed volunteers to join our prayer team. If interested, please email waco@jesussaidlove.com
      • Church and community partnerships to deepen and expand (email waco@jesussaidlove.com if you'd like to be a partner or go to jesussaidlove.com/partners)
      • Pray for doors to be opened for deepened relationship with the girls

      • Pray for the girls to feel a sense of peace and to develop trusting relationships with Club Team

      • Pray for current team leaders and volunteers

      • Pray for many opportunities for the women we are working with

      December Outreach

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 200 pajama pants donated by a volunteer to celebrate her 40th birthday
      • 200 Christmas gift bags passed out in four Dallas clubs
      • 1 club owner met in person ... relationship established
      • The Gospel was shared with a security guy

      Story:

      “Fight.”

December’s Outreach seemed to embody this word. Two days before outreach we got an email stating the stockings we ordered for the women were out of stock and they canceled our order, our prayer team leader had trouble after back surgery and was unable to run the night, and volunteers were dropping like flies from illness. Our team was discouraged. On top of it all, we were forced to rearrange teams because two of the six clubs asked us to not come for a while.

But, we showed up to the other four.

Instead of our normal count of 50 women, we had 30 along with 9 security guys to drive us to the four clubs.

We headed out and were happy to receive our normal welcome at the first three clubs-- girls excited, Christmas cheer in the air. As we continued, we received a text from our leaders at the fourth club -- a club we had been going to for the last three years -- more recently, the management mentioned the owner did not enjoy having us. This particualr night, they asked our volunteers to just leave the gifts at the door. Our team was discouraged.

      But, God moved.

The fourth club was owned by another club we were visiting, and after connecting with a manager, one of our leaders was able to meet with the owner then and there. Not only did our leader get to talk with the owner, but he proceded to introduce her to his other colleages and share what JSL is, why we were there, and why it mattered. The owner then let her know that we are always welcome in his clubs. He fought for us when it came to his employees who were sceptical of our presense there.

Even with all the set backs, God showed up big. He has placed us in this position to serve these women and fight for them and in that, He continues to fight on our behalf. What a good God we serve who paves the way and lavishes his favor on the JSL team.

      City Needs:

      • Financial support for the Dallas budget for 2017
      • Church partnerships
      • Prayer for Club Team members' commitment to stay strong
      • Prayers for continued support as women continue to transition out of the industry

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 30 stockings gifted
      • 4 Club Team members
      • 2 Security Team members

      Story:

The enemy does not approve of outreach nights. In fact, this month we saw the enemy put every complication in our way Friday. Club Team members were sick, others had car issues, and we were exhausted— but we prayed and ask for Jesus to move. Make these club floors– these dressing rooms– Holy ground.

It was great to reconnect with friends. “I’m matching my outside to my inside,” one girl said as she announced graduating earlier in December. We celebrated with joy in this awesome truth. She was excited to see what next steps would hold.

We continued to pass out stockings, making sure each girl got a pair of pajama pants they loved. I noticed one of the women there had her fingernails painted a fun, bright teal color and commented that they looked great. She beamed back and said thank you. “Would you like me to do yours?” she asked. “Absolutely, I would!” Together we sat at the makeup counter and chatted like old friends as she painted my nails. It’s the sweetest coat of nail polish I’ve ever received.

I’m excited to see what this new year brings in Temple/Killeen, and I’m taking hope in the fact that the Lord will continue to move in these cities.

      City Needs:

      • New City Team Leader for Temple/Killeen
      • Outreach sponsorship partners for 2017
      • Babysitting Team Leader and Hospitality Team Leader
      • Additional community partnerships and volunteers-- if you're interested in volunteering, go to jesussaidlove.com/volunteer and fill out a volunteer form!

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 60 gifts handed out between our three clubs
      • Had a new prayer team. Thank you Aresnal Church!

      Story:

Jesus is everywhere. I have been encouraged to find Him in everyone I come across, have a conversation with, everyone I make eye contact with. We see Him every month in the women who share their stories with us. We are created in His image whether we are living that way or not. I challenge myself every month to find Jesus, the gold, in them and call it out.

In November we noticed a friend we had not seen since she told us she was pregnant. I said hi but she acted as though she didn’t know us nor wanted to talk to us. I left it alone and prayed for her throughout the night. We saw her again this month and she jumped up and ran over to give me a hug. I was shocked, but held her tight and asked about her baby. He is 8 weeks old and she is back dancing to support him. I asked how we could help and she said “I am fine, I’ve got it.” In that moment, what is the gold? I told her how she lit up when talking about her son which made it evident she loved him so and was a good mom. I told her she was doing a good job!

The other clubs were pretty slow and we were short team members so we didn’t stay long in all of our clubs, but we had good chats. My prayer is always to call out the gold in the women. Please pray for ideas to meet with them outside the club! They are ready!

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 160 Christmas stockings (filled with Old Navy PJ pants, Bath & Body Works Fragrance spray, and fuzzy socks) delivered to 3 Houston strip clubs
      • 10 Buffalo Wild Wings Christmas gift cards given to bouncers, managers, and parking attendants at 3 Houston clubs

      Story:

December was a special month, as we celebrated one year of outreaches in Houston! Here are a few highlights of Jesus Said Love’s first year in Houston:

      • We have had the opportunity to develop relationships and friendships with women and staff in 3 Houston strip clubs.

      • With the support of several churches, groups, and volunteers, we’ve been able to deliver 150-160 gifts each month.

      • We’ve had over 120 people sign up to volunteer this year!

      • We’ve helped a single mom with furniture and and supplies for her new apartment, as well as helped her with math tutoring for her nurses aide certification.

      • We provided another single mom with school uniforms and supplies for 5 of her 6 children.

      • We’ve had the opportunity to pray with women in dressing rooms, and pray for the DJ at one of our clubs.

      • We walked alongside a woman going through rehab for substance abuse.

With every gift that we give, every conversation we have, every opportunity to make a connection with a woman in need - our prayer is that the love of Christ is communicated and every woman and staff member knows they are deeply loved by God. We are so incredibly grateful for your prayers and support, and are hopeful and excited about 2017!

      City Needs:

      • Businesses willing to hire women transitioning out of the sex industry.
      • Churches or groups who would like to sponsor an outreach in 2017.

      WACO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 44 stockings stuffed with pajama pants, a Bath & Body Works item, and a cosmetic item, were gifted to women in the club.

      Story:

Our Christmas Outreach is always a sweet one, and the women loved their stockings!  Girls at both clubs asked when we would be bringing T-shirts (which they love so much). Each Club Team member had engaging conversations and phone numbers were exchanged.

We were also blessed to spend more time than usual at one of the clubs. The management at the particular club tends to not allow us much time visiting the girls. However, this time we stayed close to 30 minutes, developed conversations, and got to know new faces.

We are hopeful to connect again with the same girls on our next outreach.

      City Needs:

      • We are looking for committed volunteers to join our prayer team. If interested, please email waco@jesussaidlove.com
      • Church and community partnerships to deepen and expand
      • Pray for team leaders and that many more volunteers would join our team in Waco

      • Pray for doors to be opened for deepened relationship with the girls

      • Pray for the girls to feel a sense of peace and to develop trusting relationships with Club Team

      • Pray for team leaders and for volunteers

      • Pray for many opportunities for the women we are working with

      • Pray for moms and their families during this time of the year, as it can be hard around the holidays

      November City Updates

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 230 homemade pies delivered to the clubs!

      Story:

Dressing rooms in Dallas were filled with hugs, giggles and PIES-- 230 homemade pies to be exact! Once again the pies were a huge hit with our friends. The night was full of conversation from "What kind of pie is your favorite?" to "Can you pray for me?".

There is nothing sweeter than being able to hold the hand of a friend and pray over them-- this was the scene during outreach.

One club that usually restricts us from bringing in food allowed us (once again this year) to bring in the pies! Relationships continue to grow and new ones have begun!

      City Needs:

      • Financial support for the Dallas budget
      • Church partnerships
      • Prayer for Club Team members' commitment to stay strong
      • Prayers for continued support as women continue to transition out of the industry

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 30 homemade pies gifted
      • 4 Club Team members
      • 2 Security Team members

      Story:

November Outreach is a sweet one, especially since it's filled with delicious homemade pies! We walked in with arms filled with more pies than we could carry and the girls were excited! The night was filled with happy voices asking what kind of pies we had. Some girls safely tucked their pies away for after work and some eagerly looked around for a fork to dig in ASAP. It was sweet to talk about Thanksgiving and family and the holidays.

There were several new girls working Friday, lots of new faces and only a few familiar. We listened as girls talked about their families, about graduating, about getting new jobs. It was a sweet, merry time.

While we were inside, our Security Team had a unique experience... This week we had one new volunteer serving on Security. While they were outside, our new volunteer thought he saw someone he knew walking up to the club. The two engaged in conversation and after realizing where they knew each other from, the patron mentioned he was looking for a sponsor. Our volunteer stepped up to the plate and said he was ready and willing. After their conversation, the patron walked into the club. Not more than two minutes after, the man walked back out. "I think today's the day I get sober", he told our Security Team. He said "thank you" and left.

God works in the most beautiful ways. Friday reminded me about the bigger picture that comes with awakening hope and empowering change. Our heart is to change culture, and Jesus does that-- whether it be in the hearts of those working or the hearts of patrons. Jesus changes everything.

      City Needs:

      • New City Team Leader for Temple/Killeen
      • Outreach sponsorship partners for 2017
      • Babysitting Team Leader and Hospitality Team Leader
      • Additional community partnerships and volunteers-- if you're interested in volunteering, go to jesussaidlove.com/volunteer and fill out a volunteer form!

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 75 pies were delivered and shared with so many women
      • Met several new girls
      • Talked with a makeup artist and her passion to help women feel good about themselves

      Story:

Each Friday before driving over to the cubs, we pray for the women to sense God tangibly in something we say or in something we bring. We are so desperate for the women to experience God because we know that when that moment happens, they will never be the same. This night was no different-- “God show up”, we prayed.

We headed into the clubs armed with pies! We were so thankful we had the perfect flavors-- the girls were hungry. There were lots of laughs, stories, and introductions to new friends. “We love when y’all come” and “I’ve heard about you guys, but I haven’t ever gotten to meet you” were comments we heard all night. We didn’t have incredibly deep conversations, but Jesus was seen in the follow up conversations. It is amazing to witness the impact that occurs when we remember conversations from the month before. Sometimes being known and remembered means more than a gift. We all want to be heard and to know that someone is really interested in us.

We are praying next month will lead to follow up conversations away from the club where we really get to know and hear the heart of the women. Please pray with us for relationships to be built and awakening to identity to be a reality.

      City Needs:

      • Team members for all teams! If you are interested email michelle@jesussaidlove.com
      • We are in need of a DECEMBER Outreach sponsorship
      • Alliance partners and connections within the community
      • Prayers for continual God encounters for the women
      • Prayers for relationships to continue to flourish at the clubs
      • Prayers for our current team members and their families

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 150 homemade pumpkin pies delivered to 3 Houston strip clubs
      • We were given access to a new club (new to us) and were blessed to meet new faces!

      Story:

“Pie Love You”. I don’t know if our women have ever been as excited about a gift, as they were about homemade pumpkin pie! For our November outreach, a group of beautiful souls from Tallowood Baptist Church and Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church made 150 full-sized homemade pumpkin pies that were given to dancers and staff in 3 Houston clubs. There were squeals of excitement and pies were either immediately stuffed in lockers for safe keeping or there was a frantic search for forks so they could dig in right on the spot. (Note to self: next year, bring forks!)

After finding out in August that we would not be able to visit one of our regular clubs, we started praying for another club. November was our first month to visit this new club! Initially, we were given permission from management to only drop off the pies, but when we arrived we were welcomed back to the dressing room to hand out the pies! There was a swarm of hungry women, each ready to claim their pie!

We are excited about the opportunity with this new club and ask for your prayers as we continue to visit and get to know these beautiful women!

      City Needs:

      • We are looking for a few more outreach sponsors for Fall 2016. If you would like to sponsor an outreach or would like more details, please let us know!
      • If you have a bible study, Sunday school class, MOPS group, or even just group of friends who would like to hear about Jesus Said Love, we would love to share with you! You can contact Sally Collier, our City Team Leader, at sally@jesussaidlove.com

      WACO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 70 homemade pies made by Harris Creek were delivered to 2 clubs
      • 30 Toy Store Applications passed out
      • 1 new club team member and security team member joined us this month

      Story:

First, I want to thank all of those from Harris Creek who baked 70 delicious pies! The women and the staff absolutely loved getting to pick out their favorite flavors and like always, they couldn’t believe all of them were HOMEMADE! I love that these pies were taken home and shared with children, friends, and family. As we gathered to pray together in our new office space before outreach, gratitude began to swell in my heart for all we have seen God do this past year. The night was beautiful and full of laughter and we all left feeling thankful yet again for another opportunity to see and connect with our friends. October City Updates

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 230 fall scented candles delivered to four clubs
      • 25+ Club Team Members
      • 3 Security Team Members

      Story:

So often when reading stories or posts about ministry, we find happy thoughts and sentiments. While we find joy in all circumstances as believers, I have come to know that the ministry we’re doing here at JSL can be hard. It’s heartbreaking at times. October’s Outreach was one of the nights that reminded me of just this.

This outreach was one that made many of the Dallas team feel uneasy and unsure of what is to come. Before outreach we learned sex trafficking was happening within one of the clubs we enter regularly, keeping us from entering this month. One of the managers we had established a relationship with was being moved. On top of that, our large outreach team only had 3 security guys show— not nearly enough to drive the 25+ team members who were ready to love on women. As our team entered one of the clubs where we are normally welcomed with open arms, we were shocked to find out the owner asked that we no longer come— unexpected and out of the blue.

It was one of those nights. The evening felt heavy. It weighed down on us as the team walked out the door to get back in cars.

One thing has been evident since the beginning— Satan does not approve of outreach nights. We have seen things thrown in our way to keep our teams from reaching the women behind the club doors, BUT God prevails. Our God steps in and does things beyond what we could ever imagine. These are the nights God uses to transform what we would consider to be small story into His bigger picture.

One of our team members has been loving on a woman for months now. They formed a relationship outside the club and pursued other jobs, counseling, and even tutoring. As we entered the club and they made eye contact, our club team member ran over and wrapped her arms around her sweet friend, overjoyed to see her. But, she didn’t get the response she was looking for. This woman said she was embarrassed, ashamed, and upset to be back in the club. She did not want the team to see her that night. In that moment, our team member was able to build her up. She is loved. There was no judgement in any eyes-- all that was seen was her beautiful face. Our team member was able to confirm her worth. This did not define her.

Outreach may not have looked like what we thought it would look like, but God knew these two friends needed to collide again in a big way. If this is the reason the Dallas Team gathered, prayed and spread across clubs throughout the city, then it was a success. One woman is worth it!

      City Needs:

      • Financial support for the Dallas budget
      • Church partnerships
      • Prayer for Club Team members' commitment to stay strong
      • Prayers for continued support as women continue to transition out of the industry

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 30 candles gifted
      • 2 Club Team members
      • 2 Security Team members who chatted with the bouncers the entire time at the club

      Story:

The whole month had been covered in prayer-- from prayers for our small Club Team to prayers over each candle and the room each would eventually reside in.

That Friday night, the dressing room was packed. Several women were getting ready, doing their hair and makeup. We talked with several about their children and what they would be for Halloween. One mom mentioned that it had been a long 48-hours as she had stayed up with her child all day and then come to work for the last two days. “I haven’t slept, really. I’m exhausted.” When we asked if she’d be able to go to bed any time soon, she answered that she wasn’t sure. “I just really need to work tonight. I need the money.”

Another woman walked in with a friend and mentioned she was new. When we asked how long she had been working at the club, she answered “less than a week.” She had never worked in a club before last week, and she let on that she wasn’t enjoying it. “I’m doing it for my daughter. We need the money.” She shared later that night that she had lost her daughter’s father to a car accident recently and broke down crying.

With each conversation I saw a statistic be brought further into reality. I saw faces and names and souls. 89% of women who work in the commercial sex industry say they want out, but have no other means for survival. The dressing room was filled with these very women. And it made my very soul ache that all I could give them in that moment was a candle and some cookies.

This is why we are longing to Paint The Door Red. Because this door-- this door attached to 1500 Columbus-- will open so many doors. This door will give women the opportunity to seek out other jobs. This door will offer counseling to the women who struggle with anxiety, or addiction, or grief, or PTSD. When people enter this door, they will find opportunities to join support groups, they fill find a place that offers job training, they will even find a place that will offer a hot shower to those who need one. Jesus is going to use this door-- He already is.

With the ribbon cutting of 1500 Columbus set for November 15, we are each praying for this door to be painted red by Tuesday. You can help us be a part of it-- gather your small groups, your Bible studies, your MOPS groups, your close friends, your community, your church and help us paint this door. Be a part of awakening hope and empowering change.

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 75 bags stuffed with candles, caramel apples, books, and other snacks

      Story:

It was a busy Friday night as we entered clubs with arms filled with bags made from love. We were eager to share the month’s theme of “no fear” with each woman we came across.

That night we witnessed the Lord speak to women with particular verses written on our JSL outreach cards and our Club Team had meaningful conversations with women that seemed to have a sacred touch. We spoke to one of the house moms who makes meals for the girls and she uses the money they donate to make meals for the elderly. With each story, we saw the Lord’s hand. These women are incredible, and the Lord is moving.

We met one girl that Friday who continued to ask throughout the night what I thought of her as well as what others thought of her. She had met me at the door when she was leaving and had come back inside the dressing room to talk more. “What do they think of us?” she asked. “When people see our club on TV news, what do people think we’re doing? Do they look down on us? Are they judging us?” I reassured her over and over that we are not judging-- just loving. I can’t speak for other groups of people, but I know that I’m doing this because of God’s love. JSL is here because we want to be in the places the church may not usually go. We’re here to bring gifts and bring love. “I know these women,” I said, gesturing to the girls working that night. “I know why they’re here. They’re here to get out of debt, or to take care of their children, and regardless of why they are here, I know them. They are hardworking, they are strong, they are mighty.” She agreed and wanted me to know they are a hardworking group, and although she had been working on-and-off in the clubs for almost 17 years, she was encouraging others to not do the same.

We do what we do out of love. We love these women, we love their stories, we love their hearts. Whether they’ve been working for a day, or 17 years, we hope our message continue to remain true: Jesus Said Love.

      City Needs:

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 125 candles delivered to women in two Houston clubs

      Story:

Our theme for October was “no fear”. We gave candles to signify Jesus is light and there is no fear in Him. When we met before outreach on Friday night, we prayed specifically for opportunities to be “light” to those around us -- to have conversations seasoned with grace and truth, and God provided just that.

One of our Club Team members talked to a young woman struggling with her relationship, just looking for advice. She opened up about life’s hardships and sexual abuse she endured as a child. Our team member listened intently and offered a few words of wisdom and encouragement, but what spoke most loudly was the presence and undivided attention offered by our Club Team member. One of the things that continues to amaze me is the incredible privilege we have of hearing their stories. On a Friday night, sitting on a bench in a dressing room, we get to sit and talk like old friends. Sometimes it’s just small talk with conversations about what kind of straightener they use for their hair. Sometimes we hear about their childhood or what they’re going through. My favorite, though, is when we get to hear about their dreams.

I had the opportunity to talk to a young woman with an entrepreneurial drive who dreams of opening her own dance studio. She has a dream and a plan, and she’s going for it. It was so fun to hear her talk about her passion for all kinds of dance. When she asked who we are and what we do, she was overwhelmed. She told me that in her 2 ½ years of working in clubs, she’d never seen anyone come into a club just to get to know the women and staff!

In almost every intentional conversation we have with women, we get a glimpse of what they’re dreaming of -- plans for the future. We get to be present, we get to listen, and we get to encourage. God knows their hearts-- He knows their pain, He knows their dreams. We are grateful and blessed to be friends with these beautiful women, and pray for continued opportunities to remind them there is hope and life found in Jesus.

      WACO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 45 candles gifted along with Magnolia cupcakes and gourmet popcorn

      Story:

This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our Waco Prayer Team as they prayed throughout October’s Outreach. If you’re interested in volunteering on our Prayer Team in Waco, please fill out a volunteer form at www.jesussaidlove.com/volunteer

Before club team left for outreach, we prayed as a group over the mission of JSL. We could definitely feel the presence of the Holy Spirit among us, as we held hands in support for the mission of JSL. Prayer team also took prayer requests for specific women and club groups.

Once the Club Team left for outreach, Prayer Team members took turns praying for the outreach team, safety, clubs, women working, managers, bouncers, their families, healing, and recovery. We lifted the women and men encountered by Club Team in prayer, longing for them to see they have a supporting family through JSL. We prayed for the same to be accomplished in our other JSL cities.

Prayer team meditated and prayed in each room of 1500 Columbus. We prayed over the JSL staff, interns, future clients, and the Lovely store. We prayed for the completion of the Paint the Door Red campaign and for monetary needs to be met, both for the building and JSL staff.

We prayed for the women and men entering through the 1500 Columbus doors, to feel a sense of peace, safety, and renewal. We prayed for the counseling, job training, and financial stability of the JSL clients.

Once club team returned, we were encouraged to hear they could tell a difference in outreach that night from the prayer. One team member said she could even feel our prayers. In closing, we praised God for his sovereignty and prayed over the specific dancers and clubs visited that night.

      City Needs:

      • We are looking for more volunteers on hospitality team and prayer team. Please fill out a volunteer form at www.jesussaidlove.com/volunteer if interested!

      September City Updates

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 215 hand-painted coffee mugs delivered to 4 clubs
      • 12 pizzas brought in and devoured by 3 clubs
      • 1 donation received from a woman at the club
      • 1 woman exchanged phone numbers with a Club Team member to discuss leaving the industry

      Story:

Our September Outreach was a night of women sharing life with one another— hugs were exchanged the moment our teams entered the dressing rooms. The air filled with laughter and joy as the Club Team and women caught up on life and passed around sweet pictures of precious new babies.

Even in the midst of the excitement we could still feel the presence of pain and heartache with some, so we listened— we listened and we loved.

At one club a house mom approached one of our Club Team members and handed her $6. “This is from one of the girls,” she explained. “She knew she wasn’t going to be here tonight and wanted to give this to you.”

Friday night we received a $6 donation— it represented a love, a generosity, a beautiful outpouring of self that we seldom often think about, let alone live out. While it’s clear this sweet girl understands the heart of JSL, we recognize even more so she is living out the heart of God. She understands the calling to awaken hope and empower change, and she knows $6 makes a difference. $6 will move mountains. $6 will change hearts.

      City Needs:

      • Financial support for the Dallas budget
      • Church partnerships
      • Prayer for Club Team members' commitment to stay strong
      • Prayers for continued support as women continue to transition out of the industry

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 25 knit scarves gifted
      • 3 women served on Club Team and 2 men on Security Team
      • Pizza enjoyed in the dressing room

      Story:

Voices filled the dressing room with more talk than ever about dreams and job hunts Friday night— there was a sweet air of hope in the room. As we all talked about the fall season and hopes for cooler weather, we met a woman who just started working at the club. She grew up in church and started dancing because some of her financial aid fell through. She has another job as well (as many of the women we meet do), but it doesn’t provide enough to pay for school. She has dreams and goals and is so hopeful for her future— she is so close to completing her degree. She is smart and driven and told us detailed plans of what she wants to do after she achieves her Bachelor’s degree.

It is not uncommon to find women who turned to dancing to put themselves through school. In fact, there are some larger clubs in the country who will actually recruit on college campuses. (Read Dancing for the Devil by Anny Donewald for a personal account of this.)

She asked, “What church are you guys from?”

“Actually, we all go to different churches.”

We named off our respective churches and she said, “Wow. It is really cool you would all come together.” Her eyes told me she had experienced disappointment in the Church.

I replied, “We all serve one Jesus.”

It is a beautiful thing to see our community come together through JSL. As we wait for God to bring a City Team Leader to Temple/Killeen, we are excited to see new volunteers and connections. It will truly take our entire village loving on these women to awaken hope and empower change in our community.

      City Needs:

      • New City Team Leader for Temple/Killeen
      • Outreach sponsorship partners for 2017
      • Babysitting Team Leader and Hospitality Team Leader
      • Additional community partnerships and volunteers

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 80 scarves and bracelets gifted, donated by Wayside Chapel
      • Met many new friends as well as managers
      • Talked with a girl who is desperate to leave the industry

      Story:

If you want to change a culture, a society, you have to be willing to listen. It is when you take the time to sit and then invest in the individuals before you that you learn the heart of what they really need. Friday night I was able to learn the heart of what one particular girl needed when we talked at the club.

She started by mentioning things passively as she walked by— she said she wanted out, she commented on being abused, and finally she walked up to me and said “Do you know what you’re doing wrong? Do you know why you’re not really making a difference?” I was taken aback, I was even a little offended— our hearts are for these women, we want so much for each girl to know we are there for them, but I stopped and listened. “What can we do better?” I asked. “Make it personal,” she said. “It seems like this is just a job and there’s a list of things you want us to do. I want to know you see me. I want to know you don’t treat us all the same. If I want to see a list of things I need to do, I can Google it.”

My heart broke. Compassion flooded out. In this moment I realized sometimes our desire to help looks like a list of things to do— build a resume, set goals, list job skills. The first thing we have to do is ask what each girl wants— what each one needs. Maybe it’s someone to encourage them, someone to listen to them, someone to be a friend— but first and foremost, we’re to listen. Listen— listen to their heart, validate their pain, validates their fears, listen to their dreams, and walk the journey with them. The whole journey, even if it doesn’t look the way we want it to.

Later that night we had the opportunity to meet another woman currently serving our country, working to try to make ends meet. “I can’t even pray,” she told a team member. “I know God is so disappointed with me and what I’m doing.” Our team member took time to remind her she is cherished, beautiful, and God fully loves her no matter what. “Do you think God is mad at me?” she asked. “No, sweet girl. No way.”

Please pray for these two women this month, pray they will feel seen and loved by God. While we had several other conversations Friday, these stuck out— I believe these are the cries of so many of the women we meet. We all long to be seen, to be known, to be loved.

      • We are in need of a DECEMBER Outreach sponsorship
      • Alliance partners and connections within the community

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 125 fall scarves delivered to women in two Houston clubs
      • Deeper connection was made between our Security Team and the parking attendant we see every month at one of the clubs
      • 1 of our Club Team volunteers has been tutoring one of the women from the club in math so she can complete her nurses aid certification! Pray for perseverance and provision for her!

      Story:

This last August we prayed for smooth entry into one of our regular clubs that had completely renovated— from its name to their hours to the women working, everything was different. We were incredibly grateful to have been able to go in last month, and continued prayers for September. When we arrived Friday night we discovered the club had changed all over again— this time with new management, we were not allowed in. Although we were disappointed, we know God is in control, He knows what’s best, and we remain prayerful and hopeful about what’s next!

We had an incredibly fruitful time in one of our other clubs and several of our Club Team volunteers had the opportunity to pray over women in the dressing room. One of our Club Team members shared this about her experience Friday night:

“Every one of us has a creative bent, it is woven in our very being. The Creator of the Universe made it a part of our DNA when He created us in His image. We are created to create— to make, to fashion, to fix, to write, to design. This is no different for one particular girl from the club, she’s a winsome girl with a smile you can’t help but be drawn in by. Our conversation started off slow, it seemed trivial almost, but eventually a trust was built. Then, her demeanor changed. When you have something deep inside you that kindles hope and occupies your mind, it’s hard to keep it to yourself. You could see it in her eyes as they lit up. You could hear it in her voice as the words came tumbling out. I was so caught up in what she was sharing, the chaos of the dressing room and the noisy music pulsing from the dance floor faded away as this precious girl shared her hopes and dreams for a life beyond the strip club. It is clear the Holy Spirit had been gently reminding her of what she was created for— to use the creative talents that God had gifted her with to bring Him glory. Without hesitation, she welcomed our prayers over her right then and there in the dressing room. We ask for you to also pray with us— pray God will continue the good work He has started, pray she will seek His provision, pray He will guide us encouraging and walking with her through this journey.”

We are grateful for every opportunity to speak life into, pray for, and encourage these beautiful, strong women. Thank you for your continued prayers!

      • 45 scarves gifted
      • 15 pizzas delivered

      Story:

The night started with an amazing prayer and worship time at 1500 Columbus. Watching the community come together to pray for the work of JSL and for the women and men we reach was amazing! Our team felt incredibly supported and empowered going into September’s Outreach and we were so thankful!

Conversations in the clubs were full of new job possibilities for the women we reach and there was a hope in the air that was tangible. Several of our club team members were able to pick up where they last left off in conversation the women they connected with last month. Women were excited and giddy to give our team members updates on some of the amazing opportunities they are getting to step into.

We would love for more people to join our Club Team and our other “Love” teams. If you are in the Waco area and have a calling to this of work, we would love to have you on our team!!

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 215 water bottles delivered to 5 clubs
      • 1 club let us in for the first time in a few months-- great connections made!

      Story:

After a month of rest and then going back into the clubs I had prayed that the relationships that were developing would pick right back up where they left off. As we entered I don't know who was more excited us or them, but there was JOY in the dressing room. The night was filled with laughter and a deepening of our relationships. Thank you Lord for always going in before us making it easy for us to follow in your footsteps.

There were several new girls and we were able to form relationships with many of them. We also had the opportunity to reconnect with a girl we hadn't seen in awhile who now says she is confident she is a "child of God." Another friend of ours who had left the club and had gotten a new job is back in the clubs, she asks for prayer that she wouldn't lose her day job because of car issues. A house mom who has received assistance from JSL for some bills recently is very appreciative that we come month after month.  We will be meeting with her outside the club in an effort to encourage her to break away—she doesn’t have any kids of her own and considers the girls her children— we recognize it will be very difficult for her to leave. Two of the women were in a car wreck, both of which we have a relationship with. One is recovering from injuries and hasn't returned to work, and another is in jail--we're planning on visiting her soon.  Also softened up one of the particularly gruff managers with snacks and a water bottle! They let us park in valet parking for the first time which is much safer!

In another club, the Club Team only had three ladies when normally they have a much larger team, but the smaller team was perfect for that particular Friday. The normal house mom was not there and our time was shorter than normal. She said the manager was not happy because the club wasn't making as much money. Apparently this is why they didn't want us in there as long. A member of our Club Team had met with one of the ladies a couple times since June and we got to see her again last night. Bright beautiful smiles! One of the dancers I hadn't met before got a water bottle and asked why we do what we do. She then read my JSL shirt and was thrilled! She said she wants a shirt because she is tired of people judging her and thinking less of her and that everyone makes mistakes and doesn't want to be judged. Is was a sweet unscripted truth of a moment!

At another club there was good favor and great conversations. Excited about talking with us and especially regarding a bowling event the club team is planning for these girls. Great response when we asked about prayer requests.

      City Needs:

      • Continued discernment in loving women in transition
      • Prayers for open communication with managers
      • Prayers for continued open doors at the clubs

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 25 brightly colored cups with JSL logo and Back to School flyer gifted

      • 3 women served on Club Team and 2 men on Security Team

      • Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets enjoyed in the dressing room

      Story:

This month, the club was buzzing with talk of kids starting school and the emotions that moms go through preparing for the start of the school year. As we were talking, one of the women rushed into the dressing room to frantically count her money. I started a conversation with her and in her hurry, she shared with me that she was $90 short on her rent. She had to be up early the next morning to work her other job and was desperate to make $90 to ensure that she and her two kids would have a place to stay. Her desperation was heartbreaking, and I couldn’t help but wonder how many other ladies in the club had a similar predicament that night. This emergency state is all too common for women in the sex industry. As we hear their stories, we want to be wise. We don’t want our ministry to only provide Band-Aids for a short term fix. We want to point them toward the source of the Living Water - to speak life and hope and love into their “right now.” We are confident that God works miracles in big ways, but we pray to be patient and hopeful when that work seems slow. We only see this chapter, when God is writing a whole book.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 75 cups with flyers for school supplies handed out, donated by Christ Centered Women
      • Had a great conversation with a manager expectant for a new job
      • We were able to pray for 3 women in one club

      Story:

August outreach is fun because I LOVE school supplies and we get the opportunity to take the women shopping for their kids. It also gives us the chance to love on the rest of family affected by this industry. 80% of the women are single moms, and school supplies aren’t cheap.

We headed into the club armed with cups for the women and a flyer for school supplies. There were not many women in the first club we went into, but as a manager walked through I stopped him because we had never met. We had a great conversation and he asked “Will you pray for me? I have an interview on Monday and if I get this position, I can leave this place.” We know and recognize there are several women itching to leave, but we often neglect to realize-- they are not the only ones. We love the women and men we encounter in the club-- from the managers to the valet and bouncers.

In the second club we were able to speak with one of the girls who was at the vigil we attended for Margarita and she was able to process a little more about what had happened. We were finishing our conversation and one of the team members asked her if she could pray for her right in that moment, which lead to another team member praying for a waitress who is really wanting to leave. The best part was we already got a call from one of the girls we prayed for and were able to take her shopping and speak life and hope to her. We will be meeting soon to put together a budget and look for a job. She texted afterward and said “I cried when I got home because I’ve never had anyone look out for me like you ladies do.”

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 150 water bottles with LOVE logo delivered to 3 Houston clubs
      • "Back to School" flyers distributed to offer help with school supplies for dancers’ children

      Story:

In mid-July, we found out one of our clubs had made big changes - new name, new hours, and new dancers. Although it was a slower night at our other two clubs, we had good conversations and were able to see old friends and catch up. When we pulled up to our last club, we weren’t sure how the night was going to go - if the new changes would affect our relationship with this club. Praise God, we were able to get in with no problem! It was bittersweet to walk in and only see one of the women we’ve developed a friendship with over the past 8 months. We missed seeing their faces and all of the laughter we shared with that particular group (they were loud and fun to be with!), but we continue to pray that maybe these changes would be the catalyst to new work and and a new way of life for them.

Two of our club team members also had the opportunity to take a dancer school shopping for 5 of her 6 children. One of our ladies shared this about their time together:

“Like many of the women we have met, she has been hurt by the church and is raising her children on her own. Her mom died when she was 11 years old and her other 2 siblings were taken in by family, but she was turned over to the state. I felt and heard the pain in her voice as she shared with me that the last thing that she wants to do is go to the club, but she does it in order to provide for her 6 children. By the end of our conversation we laughed, cried and found ourselves hugging in the produce section of WalMart as if no one else was there, and I didn't want to let her go. I trust that the Lord will be with her and her children, but it's hard because a part of me feels like I'm throwing her back to the wolves. I received a phone call later that day with all of her kids on speaker phone, thanking us for the school supplies! I am grateful that the Lord added her to my life, because I want to plant the seeds in all of the women I come in contact with to know how valued, cherished, and loved they are by Jesus.”

That is what we are about-- We love. We speak life. We awaken hope. We empower change. Jesus came so that we would have life, and have it to the FULL. Jesus loved, and so we love.

      • 6 Chick-fil-A nugget trays delivered

      • 6 gift cards given to management

      • 7 women taken back to school shopping

      Story:

“The Jesus girls are here” was yelled as we went into our second club of the evening. It was as if everything else that had been going on stopped as a few women ran back to the dressing room to greet us. With huge smiles stretched across their faces they gave our club team the kind of embraces that you feel deep in the soul. Women began quickly updating us on their lives and filling us in on the exciting and hopeful opportunities that were coming their way. They opened up about the difficult realities they are facing and asked us for prayer and support. Every month I am reminded of how the Kingdom is found in these sacred moments. As we listen and as we offer care, the presence of Jesus is extended and fills the room. All of us are changed as His love comes rushing in. Growing in friendship with these women is one of the highest honors I hold in this life. I am truly grateful for everyone who helped assemble the gifts, cater food, and buy gift cards so we could take some of the women back to school shopping. God is truly on the move!

      July City Update

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 215 pairs of flip flops delivered to different clubs throughout Dallas

      Story:

As we continue to expand outreach, a certain club that had originally agreed on us coming sadly changed their minds when we arrived. This Club Team went to another one of our monthly visited clubs instead and made great connections with the women there—God knew what He was doing by having those club teamers head to a different club for the night.

Renovation at an older club is almost complete, so what used to be the junkier looking club has transformed into a “sparkling environment”. We pray this is the case for the souls of the women we’ve connected with there—some for about two years now. As the club team was shown around the new dressing room, we noticed that there were several new faces. One young girl mentioned that being a “stripper” was on her “bucket list” and has stuck around for the “quick cash”.

That evening, a Club Team member also got to help a woman put on her makeup while having good conversation. Solid conversations were had about how God has changed their lives and what steps are next.

Later, one of the club owners asked for a JSL shirt, so the Club Team gave him one with a card thanking him for letting us to love the ladies, and also invited him to coffee.

Romans 8:28 “We know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” We pray that the Lord would move and burst open the doors of these 2 clubs once more.

      City Needs:

      • Continued discernment in loving women in transition
      • Personal CTL financial support
      • Prayers for doors would be re-opened at clubs where we have been shut out
      • Prayers for open communication with managers
      • Prayers for Jodi (Dallas CTL) in her recovery
      • Praise: Surplus of churches wanting to sponsor Outreaches

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 35 brightly colored canvas tote bags and flip flops gifted
      • 3 women served on Club Team and 2 men on Security Team
      • Chips and salsa were enjoyed in the dressing room

      Story:

This month there were much fewer girls in the dressing room during outreach, but that allowed us to have longer conversations with the few girls that were there! We talked about hobbies, our pets, and kids-- we were so thankful for a chance to get to know these women better. They also opened up to us about some hard things going on in their lives so we could pray for them. One of the women we have been building a relationship with has started attending church and was baptized this month! The club team was able to attend the service with her and her family and celebrate what the Lord is doing in her life. We are so thankful that God is allowing us to witness restoration and get to know this sweet family!

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 75 flip flops were handed out to the ladies
      • Met new friends and caught up with girls we hadn’t seen in awhile
      • Helped throw a baby shower for one of the House Moms we know

      Story:

Summers are pretty quiet in the clubs here in San Antonio, which lends for more time to chat with the women. We met a lot of new girls. One of our team members talked with a girl that had just moved here from Austin. She is having some legal issues and needs money to clear it up so she can get another job. We are praying for connections with an attorney that can help her. She really doesn’t want to be doing this any longer. You could sense the hopelessness and desperation in her voice, but we know in the midst of the chaos and fear, God will meet her there. We will point her to the only One that can fill that void and give her peace as she works through this.

Money issues (practical needs) girls are dealing with are a huge factor as to why girls go back to the clubs after deciding to leave the industry. Sometimes they get worse before they get better because there is a break in money flow until they get a check and even then, they have bills to pay and kids to feed and budgeting isn’t always a part of the equation. Our team gets it. Just because you don’t work in the club doesn’t mean you don’t have budgeting issues. We all have experienced it on some level. Our prayer is we can work with them and encourage them to hang on because it won’t last forever and they will get through it!!

Poverty is the number one factor in gender violence. Walking out of poverty is not easy but we know these women have the strength to do it!

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 300 pairs of handmade leather earrings
      • 150 handmade bracelets were delivered to women
      • 3 Houston clubs

      Story:

In June, a beautiful group of women from Grand Parkway Baptist Church in Richmond, TX hand-made 300 pairs of leather earrings for the women in the clubs to receive. ONE volunteer made 150 wooden bead bracelets with a reminder that they are loved. Our women LOVED them and asked if they could buy them online! We were able to tell them that they were all unique and made just for them. We were able to visit with old friends and new friends this month, and are continually grateful for the opportunities we are being given to get to know them. It is encouraging to now walk in each club and be welcomed in and trusted by staff and the women there.

      WACO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 45 beach bags and flip flops gifted to women in the club
      • 6 gift cards gifted to managers and bouncers at each club
      • Chips and salsa delivered to all three clubs

      Story:

June was our “Freedom Outreach” and we walked in to all three clubs with beach bags, flip flops, and bags full of tortilla chips and salsa! This month we were able to have intentional conversation with a few women in each dressing room. The outreach component of what we do is just a small part of our program, but it always provides a great opportunity for connection with the women we work with. Many needs were expressed, honest concerns shared, and words of encouragement and hope were offered. This month has been full of women reaching out to our Waco office via text, hotline number, email, and our website. These conversations have stirred amazement within me as I have heard over and over again of the beautiful work of God in women’s stories across Texas. I talked with a woman who met our team in one of the Waco clubs back in 2003, and has recently made the brave decision to leave the industry after dancing for over 15 years. She spoke with a deep sense of gratitude as she recalled the care and kindness she always felt as she interacted with our team. She reached out to ask for Bible studies and spiritual resources. I am always humbled when I walk out of these conversations. It is a true privilege to listen and to love, to receive and to learn.

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 215 picture frames delivered to 4 clubs
      • 215 homemade cookies consumed by dancers and staff
      • 1 dancer wept as she read the quote “Beautiful girl, you can do hard things.”
      • 2 major answers to prayer
      • 6 club team members trusted God to use them at a new club

      Story:

This month I had the privilege of staying with the prayer team during outreach. I cannot describe to people how much of an impact our prayer team has on outreach night and JSL Dallas as a whole. They are a necessity, as they are constantly interceding on the team's behalf when they spread across Dallas each outreach night.  It’s beautiful when our teams return from the night and we are able to experience answered prayer; and Friday night was no exception.

One of the clubs we see each month has had very hard circumstances thrown it’s way in the last several months, more than the norm. It only seemed as if things were getting worse.  We have been thankful that the staff at this club has been open and honest with us and our team has used great discernment in handling certain situations. Before our team left for the night, we felt strongly to prayer a hedge of protection over our team, particularly this club.We had started this time later than normal, and while many of us felt we needed to ‘hurry,’ God made it clear this was important.  The prayer team then continued to pray as they loaded in their cars to head out for the night. When the clubs returned from outreach, we learned that the security guards and management told our team they were “lucky.” Minutes before their car arrived to unload gifts, a massive altercation had taken place in front of the club and the staff had to deal with rowdy, unruly patrons forcing them to leave the scene. God knew what He was doing in pushing our depart time that night, and He gave our prayer team words to speak over our team in His name.

Sometimes we also pray for things that others think is silly. Friday night we prayed for cookies. Out of all the clubs, we have one that will not allow us to take in any form of food. They do not like us feeding the women. But something told our team, that tonight these cookies were needed. So, we prayed for the management to allow the cookies to be delivered to the girls. Not only did management say yes, but the cookies became a beacon of love in a moment of need. One of the women picked up the frames we passed out and read the quote as she set her stuff down; “Beautiful girl, you can do hard things” and burst into tears. Her week had been filled with one awful thing after another, and just getting to the club that night was a challenge. But, as she sat there weeping, our team was able to bring a smile to her face and a little hope as she filled her belly with chocolate chip cookies and shared her rough week with club team members. Cookies brought laughter, joy and sweet connections.

Prayer works. Prayer is powerful. Nothing is too small to ask for in the eyes of our Father. He is willing and ready to intercede because He loves and adores us that much.

“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.” Jeremiah 29:12

      Story:

There has been a lot of transition going on in the lives of our volunteers and in our JSL team! Even with the chaos of transition, we were so excited about Mother’s Day outreach. So many of the women we meet are moms and lots of our conversations are about our kids and toddler tantrums and the beautiful yet hard task of being a mom. When we arrived in the dressing room, we noticed that there was a box of gifts already in the room. A group of the women had spent time and their own money to prepare Mother’s Day gift bags for US! We were floored! It was so beautiful and so unexpected! Receiving the gift was awesome, but our biggest take away was the affirmation that these women feel loved by us and by the Lord. This work matters. These outreaches matter. The women know that we have come to love on them because Jesus loves us and loves them. That’s the whole point. He sees them, and he sees us. He hasn’t forgotten about us even if we feel He is so far away. As we face trial and transition in our lives and our ministries, God is with us.

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 75 frames handed out to every woman we encountered
      • Met new friends and caught up with girls we hadn’t seen in awhile
      • Our Security Team Leader had a cool encounter with a bouncer

      Story:

The thing I love about Mother’s Day is we get to love and honor women for their role as a wife, mother, daughter, and start a conversation telling them how amazing they are as women in these roles. It also gives us the ability to search deeper into their lives regarding their relationships with their kids or their own moms. There are so many who have lost kids or have strained relationships with their own mother, and we get the privilege to speak life and hope into that situation!

We met new girls and saw many that we already knew but as we were walking out of the last club one of our team members noticed one of the girls sitting a table by herself with her head down. She walked over to her and realized it was a girl we hadn’t seen in over a year. Within the year she married and opened her own clothing store. As we talked with her she mentioned that she was having to pay taxes she didn’t expect and so she was needed to work at the club for a while. We are praying the money will come in quickly and her business will pick up. We encouraged her and told her we would be by her shop. It is so exciting to see girls fulfilling dreams. When we had first met her she said “I am just starting an online store, but one day I want to open my own store”. SHE DID! So proud of her!

Our Security Team Leader, who loves people so well, was able to speak into the life of a bouncer who is Muslim. It was an overwhelming moment for our leader. The bouncer made the comment “We are so jealous that you have Jesus that paid for all your sins. We don’t have that.” Our leader was taken aback by the love of Jesus he felt in that moment and the open door he had to tell this man how much he is loved too. There was no conversion, just two men talking about Jesus and what they believe, but I know both men were touched by a Father that loves them equally and without fail.

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 140 dancers at 3 clubs received O.P.I. nail polish and files
      • Trust is building and dancers are opening up. When it was time to leave our first club, I tapped one of our club team ladies on the shoulder to let her know that we were leaving, and the woman she was visiting with looked at me and said, “I’m going to need five more minutes with her.” (Yes, you can have five more minutes!)
      • Trust is also building with management: A manager at one of the other clubs (who hasn’t said much the past few months), pulled me aside and asked, “Can you help these girls? If I have a girl who needs help, can I contact you?”. I responded with, “Yes! That’s why we’re here. We want to be available. Please call me if you have a dancer in need.”

      Story:

May’s outreach was our 6th outreach since we launched back in December, and it felt as if something “just clicked”. It felt like a light switched on and many women realized, “They really are coming back. They really mean what they say.” We’ve had more women want to exchange numbers and connect outside of the club. One of our club team members has been able to meet with a young woman who has expressed interest in transitioning out of the industry. Pray that she would make this big step. Please continue to pray for all of these precious women. Pray that God would reveal Himself and make Himself known.

      • 45 prints and frames gifted to women in the club
      • 3 vases full of white roses delivered to all three clubs
      • 45 custom Vanilla Bean cookies wrapped and gifted to women in the club

      Story:

This was our Mother’s Day weekend outreach, and the girls seemed to really love the gifts (framed quote, roses, decorated cookies). We also gave out Jesus Loves Strippers t-shirts to girls/bouncers who didn’t have one, and they were equally if not more excited about those! We had a lot of engaging conversations, there were several new faces and probably 8-10 girls total. We also got to pray for a bouncer outside before we left. At another club, the guys got to connect with another bouncer as well and learn more about his family.

Overall, it was a great experience, and the connections made with the girls and the bouncers were exciting. We are hopeful to connect again with the same girls on our next outreach.

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 215 Nail polishes delivered to 5 clubs
      • 3 dancers asked for help in leaving the industry
      • 6 dancers began their transition out of the industry in April

      Story:

“Although our team seemed to be battling spiritual warfare this month, outreach was full of His glory. Victories took place in our club as a meeting was scheduled with one of the dancers regarding transitioning out of the industry and another dancer just kept stating it was time to leave. She had promised herself she would only dance for 6 months and it has almost been 1 year… she is ready for a change. Time and time again, these ladies thank us for not judging them and all I can think about is how we are as broken as they are, the only difference is that we are holding onto our Father with all our might.”  -- Gina M., Club Team Leader

April started as a month of discouragement for our teams. March was wonderful and connections in the clubs were made, and yet somehow before April outreach the connections had all seemed to fall away. Not only were connections hard, but each team member was experiencing great spiritual warfare. Loss, illness, stress, destruction of homes from weather, and broken relationships had brought about grief within our club team.   We began asking and praying for big things to happen for the women, the staff, and the clubs we see regularly.

Friday night (April 15) was outreach, and by Saturday morning we had 3 women contacting our team members for support. We prayed big and God answered BIG. Within a week's time, our team was able to help one woman transition to a new job, find safer housing, and remove herself from a violent relationship. We were able to connect another woman with a safe house in the area for rehab and support. We also began the process of transition with a longtime friend in the club as we were able to connect her with counseling and tutoring.

Our team was reminded that this is not about our timing, or even us at all. God has a perfect plan for each of these women and we are to trust that and continue to pursue Him in discernment as we walk alongside these women as they take their own leap of faith.

      City Needs:

      • Monthly Outreach sponsors through December
      • Growth in Church Partnerships
      • Pray for connection with new club owner and re-entry of the club team

      • 4 Club Team members delivered gifts
      • 35 bags of nail polish and nail files were giften to the women
      • 35 fresh honeybuns were gifted from Miller's Bakery

      Story:

I know that in my own life, the Lord loves surprising me. He surprises me in the way He provides for me, in the way He brings people in my life at the exact time I need them most, and in so many other ways. My favorite surprises are people, learning about where people came from and what they have been through tells so much about God’s faithfulness in His pursuit of us. In April’s outreach I witnessed our greatest surprise yet. As I was talking with one of the staff at the club about my move and furthering my education, he asked so many questions about why I wanted to help people and what I wanted to do with social work. After a while, he told me he used to be in the business of social work, but it just got to be too much. There was too much pain and too much hurt and too much stress. I get that. I get that there can be so much devastation around that it can be crippling. Friends, we have hope. Hope that Christ is with us and promises to be near to us and comfort us. As much darkness as there is, His light and goodness is great still. Will you pray for our friends that don’t know that hope?

      SAN ANTONIO UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 80 nail polishes and files were given out
      • 5 women voicing that they want to volunteer with a ministry like JSL one day
      • 1 Security Team Leader was able to purchase a piece of art from the manager who he had prayed with the month prior (the manager is wanting to sell his art)
      • Several opportunities to pray with managers and the women

      Story:

I want to highlight my amazing team this month as they are some of the most relational people I know. Each month the team takes time to text the women who they have each formed relationships with and before outreach will text to ask if they are working and to let them know that we are coming. They are incredible about remembering the little details about each woman that helps to assure them that we REALLY care, we REALLY see them, and this is not just a “we did something good, so let’s pat ourselves on the back.” They are dedicated to reaching out throughout the month to love and encourage.

The prayer team is small but mighty. They had a great night of hearing God and praying directly for what was happening while we were having conversations. They kept hearing and praying for hope to arise and we had 5 girls tell us (in different words): “I want to do what you do one day! When I leave the club, I want to come back and help other girls leave.”

Picture it for a moment: Our club team being comprised of women that have left the industry and can go back and declare freedom in their greatest place pain! WOW! I get so excited about that picture.

      Story:

I wanted to share this amazing story from our Club Team Leader. She has her own beautiful story of rescue and redemption after working in the sex industry for 7 years. God is now using her in POWERFUL ways to minister to women in the industry. Please take a minute to read this story of a beautiful intersection between Jesus Said Love and Redeemed Ministries!

“I was honored when asked to lead a bible study for the women at Redeemed Assessment Center in Houston starting in March 2016. Being with JSL since December 2015, I was dedicated to laying the fruit of our labor at the cross and trusting in His Spirit to work in the lives and hearts of the women we come in contact with each month. The Lord knows every detail of our lives and divinely weaves our paths together to reveal the fruit that His spirit is cultivating. I recently experienced one of these moments while visiting the women at Redeemed, just 10 days after JSL's April outreach.

I always start off by sharing my story, so that the women know that I am not there to judge, but that I have walked in their shoes and can identify with them. I also start off by giving big ((hugs)), and normally they are well received. However, this time, there was a young woman there named "A" that was not as excited to see me as I was to see her. As I shared how God rescued me and now has commissioned me to go back into the darkness to rescue others with the light of His hope, she interrupted me and said, "You came into the club I worked in about a week ago and gave us nail polish! You had on 'Jesus Loves Strippers' shirts, right?!"

Tears filled my eyes as I sat and listened to her tell me that for 8 years she had been in this industry and had never encountered a ministry like this in the clubs. "A" went onto to say that it was the first time she had felt genuine love and care in a long time. Shortly after the outreach, "A" was robbed by a customer and then two other dancers within 48 hours. The overwhelming loss was too much for her and she wanted to end her life, but instead said she felt a stirring in her heart to get help. She reached out to a nearby police station that connected her to Redeemed. At the end of our hour long conversation, she shared that she would rather walk into the uncertainty of her future than back to the darkness of her past. "A" also ended our conversation with outstretched arms, inviting me in for a big ((hug)), while telling me that she was so grateful to meet someone who had overcome what she is going through and that there is HOPE!”

      Snapshot:

      • 45 nail polishes gifted
      • 12 pizzas delivered to all three clubs
      • 6 Torchy's gift cards given to male staff by our security team

      Story:

At the beginning of April, I received a message that came through our dancer hotline number which we attach to all of our gifts every month. The voice on the other line sounded desperate as she expressed her desire to transition out of the industry and her need for help. She had experience dancing in three different cities across Texas. When I called her back and we began to talk, hope and excitement grew in her voice as she dreamt of a fresh start. She has since landed two different jobs in the area and is beginning to save money. Please pray for our friend as she navigates through the first couple months of transition!

Outreach at the end of the month went well. We met several new women and are continuing to connect with women outside of the clubs. Pray for relationships to continue to develop and deepen!

      DALLAS UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 8 Dallas churches pulled together and donated LOVE Bags for outreach
      • 215 LOVE bags were handed out in 6 clubs
      • 250 English & Spanish Bibles were donated and handed out to dancers & staff
      • 1 woman left the industry through connections formed on outreach night

      Story:

"He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness..."By his wounds you have been healed." 1 Peter 2:24

During Easter Outreach, I was reminded of the significance of relationship. God extends His boundless grace to us through an offer of ongoing relationship with Him. At JSL, we see that this must be practically represented by how we build and grow authentic relationships with dancers and club staff. We often receive questions and funny looks about the latter...but this is a large part of loving the dancers well. Even in the newest club, the manager sat in the dressing room to hang out with our team. In one of our larger clubs; a manager and a few security guys left their post to carry 50 love bags from our cars to the dressing room so our ladies didn't have to go back and forth. Then, we were given a huge shock when a particularly hard, strict (and sometimes downright mean) manager began to break down his walls. The door is opened.

We don't calculate success the way others do. The small stories above are just a few examples of how love, relationships and boldness begin to break down barriers and fear in others. None of this is from our own efforts, but instead trusting that the Holy Spirit will work through us. We cherish Good Friday and what Easter weekend represents. Our prayer is that we don't forget the sacrifice and resurrection as the year goes on and we continue to pursue these relationships in the clubs, no matter how challenging. Christ continues to pursue all of us and we must be imitators of Him.

      City Needs:

      • Monthly Outreach sponsors through September
      • Growth in Church Partnerships
      • Pray for continued strong relationships in and outside the clubs
      • Personal CTL financial support in preparation for maternity leave

      Snapshot:

      • 30 LOVE bags were filled with shampoo, conditioner, first aid supplies, etc.
      • 3 dozen brownie bites were gifted in the dressing room
      • 3 Women served on Club Team and 2 men on Security Team

      Story:

While preparing for this month’s outreach the Lord kept telling me, “I am eager to be gracious to you.” I was reading Isaiah 30:18-33 and thinking specifically about a girl in the club I have known since we first started doing outreaches in Killeen. She was my first deep relationship I had with a dancer outside the club, and I was honored every time she shared a little more about her past. Last August, we lost touch and I didn’t hear back from her. I heard rumors speculating her whereabouts, but no one really seemed to know where she went. Since last fall, I have prayed for her and pleaded with the Lord to keep her safe, drawing her to himself and comforting her. Going into this month’s outreach, I was struggling with a ton of anxiety and doubting if the Lord really was going to be gracious. When I stepped into the club I could not believe my eyes! There she was: the sweet friend I had been praying for and thinking about for eight months! In the dressing room, we both just sat on the floor and caught up on life and family and friends. I was so eager to hear every detail. I heard the Lord say again, “I am eager to be gracious.”

      City Needs:

      • Outreach sponsors for the upcoming months
      • Further community partnerships
      • Babysitting Team Leader and Hospitality Team Leader

      Snapshot:

      • 80 LOVE bags were taken to the clubs
      • 150 brownie bites were given away in dressing rooms

      • Multiple opportunities to pray with managers and girls

      Story:

Easter is a special outreach: during this weekend, the world brings attention to the love Jesus poured out...giving us a wide open door to talk about His love and pray with the girls! The one conversation that struck me was a girl who said: “I am lukewarm, and I know what I am doing is wrong.” That statement is so shame-based, so I told her, “Who said you were lukewarm? This is not about right and wrong. This is about how much you are loved and how special of a woman you are.” We exchanged numbers and she has been chatting about church with one of our team members. She is excited to go to a church where she won’t feel different from everyone because of what she does! Our Security Team leader had a chance to speaking an encouraging word to a manager and pray with him. Big things are happening, and we are asking you to pray with us for a girl that working to fully transition out of the industry!

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 150 dancers received LOVE bags filled with full-sized practical items.
      • We visited 3 clubs during Easter Outreach

      Story:

March’s Easter Outreach in Houston went SO well! We delivered the LOVE bags on Good Friday - I can't think of a better day to give a gift to communicate to these women that they are loved and not forgotten. It was an amazing night, and the women were SO excited to receive the bags! There were several women who couldn't believe that they got to keep the WHOLE bag.

Familiarity and trust are quickly being built, both between our Club Team members and the women we're reaching each month. At one club in particular, our girls walk in and the dancers erupt with squeals and and open arms. These gifts we give each month are more than just gifts: they are a tangible representation of a good God who loves them. A big ‘thank you’ to Hope Church and bible study groups at Kingwood United Methodist Church for their contribution to the LOVE bags!

      City Needs:

      • Pray that more women would reach out to meet with our club team outside of the clubs
      • Continued partnerships - with churches, businesses, schools and individuals
      • Individuals who are willing to host Vision Events (of any size) - in homes, at bible studies, etc - to share the vision of Jesus Said Love

      • Love Bag were filled with shampoo and conditioner, band aids, gum, snacks, Easter stuffed animals and coloring books for the kiddos
      • We handed out multiple Jesus Loves Strippers T-Shirts to women in the clubs

      Story:

This month, we met a dancer back after several months of recovery from a severe and scary injury! She shared her story with us through a lens of thankfulness and blessed us through hearing about her bravery, strength and tenacity.

Many of the women we connected with this month reported that business had been down for them and that they were not making as much money as they hoped. This makes keeping up with bills difficult and creates stress and sometimes insecurity about living situations. Many women reported needing additional finances to be able to secure more stable housing! Pray for provision and donate to The Dixie Fund!

      Story:

February outreach was absolutely amazing! Every member of our Club Team was able to have real, raw conversations with several dancers. In each club that we went into, we were given a lot of time to sit and talk with the women. Almost all of the women stayed back in the dressing room with us and caught us up on the details of their lives. We laughed a lot together and they also opened up about things they have never told us before. A few of the dancers gave us the opportunity to pray with them about certain situations and circumstances in their lives. It was a beautifully sacred time, and the Holy Spirit was near and moving. The women were so touched by the roses and chocolate covered strawberries. Thank you to everyone who was a part of making and putting together the gifts!

      • 215 Mary Kay good bags were taken into 6 clubs
      • 250 chocolate covered strawberries were delivered to dancers and staff
      • 1 prayers shawl was given to a manager struggling with cancer
      • 1 House Mom was celebrated by the Club Team with a birthday cake
      • 53 Club Team members loved on dancers across Dallas
      • 16 Security Team members built relationships with staff outside the club

      Story:

Joy. Valentine's Outreach was full of a love that only our Jesus could supply. 6 teams entered clubs across Dallas, armed with chocolate covered strawberries and Mary Kay goody bags. (Thank you Global Harvest and FiveStone for the gift donations!)

One of our Club Teams celebrated a house mom with a birthday cake! This was such a tangible way to show not only her, but also the dancers in the dressing room, that our team loves beyond these doors. We do not forget them between outreaches. That relationship has allowed our team to connect in powerful ways to others within that club.

We also had many teams that were able to open their arms and embrace dancers and staff during grief. Loss of loved ones and major illnesses were a part of the reality for several women we came across Friday night, and in these moments the Holy Spirit opened doors. It was a beautiful picture to see dancers being prayed over in the midst of the chaos. The Holy Spirit was present, calming the storm for many.

What do you picture to be an example of love? For JSL Dallas, it was singing Happy Birthday, laughing, jumping in joy as a Club Team member reconnected with a friend she hadn't seen in the club for months, giving one manager (sick with cancer) a prayer shawl, praying over the grief-stricken, and a team of 50 women entering a club caring gifts with no strings attached. We love and adore these women. The greatest gift we can offer though, is that our God loves them mounds and mounds more! It was a beautiful Valentine's Day.

      Story:

February Outreach was different. It is always a good night when we get to love on women, if only for a moment...but this month, there was a different feel in the clubs. We found good conversations, but also hard conversations. One girl was dealing with Ovarian Cancer and her son’s constant nose bleed, with no answers from doctors. We prayed with her and got her information. THIS...this is why it is so important to us to build relationships with these women and connect them to resources outside the club. They need people like we need people.

The beautiful handmade Valentine’s cookies made the girls feel so special! The thought that someone took the time to specially make something for them is huge!

      HOUSTON UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 150 dancers at 3 clubs received roses + chocolate covered strawberries
      • 1 club granted us access that had denied us last month!
      • Several Club Team ladies prayed for dancers at 2 clubs
      • 3 women have reached out to meet outside of the club

      Story:

After a crazy miscommunication, we were able to get back into the club that denied us access last month! We also had the incredible opportunity to pray for a club DJ. He had been robbed at gunpoint the week before and asked one of our team members if we could pray for him before we left. On our way out of the club, I stuck my head in the DJ booth and asked if it was a good time to pray for him. He stepped right out of his booth, and opened his arms in a posture of surrender. Our group circled around him right there on the club floor, held his hands, and thanked God for his life and for protection. I am continually amazed and grateful for the opportunities that we are being given. God is moving and working!

      City Needs:

      • Pray that God would provide time and space for intentional conversations with dancers, managers, and bouncers at the clubs.
      • Continued partnerships - with churches, businesses, schools and individuals.
      • Individuals who are willing to host Vision Events (of any size) - in homes, at bible studies, etc - to share the vision of Jesus Said Love.
      • Businesses in Houston who are willing to hire women desiring to transition out of the commercial sex industry.

      KILLEEN UPDATE

      Snapshot:

      • 35 long stem roses gifted to women in the club
      • 60 chocolate covered strawberries enjoyed in the dressing room
      • 5 boxes of chocolates given to management and bouncers

      Story:

I want nothing more than to report that outreach was incredible and inspiring and we saw God work in unbelievable ways...but I can’t. The thing is, outreach wasn’t bad...but everything just felt very off. Many dancers were unavailable to talk, and the ones who were around were new and a little skeptical of us. It is in these moments that I get a gut check with the Lord. I have to shake off wounded pride and disappointment and remember that this thing we do isn’t about us. Our obedience to show up is our greatest success. The Lord is in control and is going to work whether we get to see it on outreach night or not!

Although conversations were brief with the girls we are close with, they did lead to some great ministry outside the club. One of the girls needed baby formula very badly. Over the next two days, folks in the community donated $300 worth of baby formula! What a huge blessing it was to serve her and her sweet baby!

      City Needs:

      • We are in need of a June Outreach sponsor
      • Volunteer to serve as Babysitter Team Leader
      • Prayers for the women and our team as we prepare for Easter...that we would be equipped to share the Gospel in the way we care for them.

        KILLEEN UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 35 mugs were filled with snacks and vouchers for a free group class at TrueCore fitness
        • 7 candy bars were given to bouncers and management

        Story:

This month, just as we were about to leave the club, we started talking with one woman about dating relationships. She began to explain rules about dating between dancers and management. In favor of the rule, one woman said, “Doesn’t everyone know that this isn’t real? Our lives we live here in the club aren’t real. It’s a fantasy, you can’t expect anyone to really love you here.” My stomach dropped. So often, this is the mentality we come up against in the club. Life in the club isn’t “real life” and the things that happen there don’t affect what happens outside the walls of the club. This is why so many women find it so difficult to discuss kids and their families right before they step onto the stage. As a survival skill, they separate the two realities. They cannot coexist.

This makes loving the girls authentically and deeply in the club so important, Christ does love us, even in the club he chases us and pursues us.

        City Needs:

        • Prayer for vision for the new year
        • Continued growth in volunteers
        • Greater community awareness and involvement

        DALLAS UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 204 handmade scarves were delivered to women in the clubs
        • 15 college girls from Lake Highlands Church sewed and prayed over the gifts
        • 9 large bowls of homemade puppy chow were given as a treat
        • 1 women quit dancing and through JSL & began job training
        • 1 team member stepped up to house a dancer after the Dallas Tornadoes

        Story:

The Dallas team is strong, committed and willing. This month I have been in awe of the connections, time, and effort they have put into loving women they’ve met in the clubs. Composed of all backgrounds and denominations, this team truly represents the church. They are stepping far beyond the church walls; into clubs, homes, coffee shops, restaurants, doctors and even lawyer offices to advocate for the needs of these women.

While growth can be a daunting and a fearful thing, I am more than confident that these 52 team members have become the hands and feet of Jesus. They are answering the call and stepping up to serve in ways they never imagined possible. Since the month of December, the Dallas team has helped 2 dancers begin the transition out of the club: connecting them with churches for community, assisting with job training, pursuing and legal aid in an effort for holistic healing. BIG things are happening in Dallas. When the Body of Christ comes together to love in unexpected ways, He moves… and moves in a powerful way. We look forward to what is to come!

“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for the food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Corinthians 9:10

        Prayer Needs:

        • Steadfastness for our teams has connections are made outside the club
        • Growth in the security team
        • Church partnerships
        • Financial Provision in 2016 for JSLD

        HOUSTON UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 75 “You are loved!” coffee mugs with homemade hot chocolate given to dancers at 2 clubs
        • 1 manager warmly expressed his gratitude to us for coming!

        Story:

After calling ahead to let the clubs know we were coming to bring gifts, one manager told us that we could not come back. We were surprised...this club had met us with the most positive response in December during  our Christmas outreach. However, I politely and respectfully refused to take “no” for an answer, thinking of every possible way that we could send gifts to our women, but there seemed to be no getting through.

However, that disappointment led to the beautiful gift of having more time in the other two clubs, leaving opportunities for real, and intentional conversations with women. In between conversations about makeup, we saw ladies start to open up to our women. A manager at one of the clubs told us how much he appreciated us being there, and to let him know if we needed ANYTHING. Our security guys were engaging with bouncers and managers outside of the club. God knew, and provided time and space in those two clubs to allow us to be present and available. What a humbling privilege it is to be right in the middle of what God is doing!

        Prayer Needs:

        • Pray for continued trust and rapport built with dancers and management
        • Provision and partnerships - with churches, businesses, schools and individuals
        • Monthly outreach sponsors
        • Opportunities to share Jesus Said Love in Houston

        • 50 mugs filled with chocolates and hot cocoa were delivered
        • Met 3 new women
        • Passed out 60 January retreat flyers

        Story:

First, I want to thank everyone from the community who contributed to our January outreach. The women absolutely loved the mugs filled with chocolates and hot cocoa mixes. I am thankful for the hospitality team who planned an AMAZING January retreat and for Carly Webb and the rest of the gift bag team who put together all of the gifts for our January outreach. Our visit to the clubs went really well. As always, it is such a gift to see depths of gratitude come across dancer’s faces as they open their gift bags. A gift bag communicates more to them than I think we often realize. We also were able to plan a January retreat, which was an absolute blast! We were able to eat lunch together, do yoga with Elizabeth Oates, and then make beautiful  paper mache hearts with Jordan Ashby.

        Prayer Needs:

        • We are in need of volunteers- specifically on Club Team, Prayer Team, and Security Team. Email Kellie@jesussaidlove.com if you are interested!
        • Pray for team leaders and that many more volunteers would join our team in Waco
        • Pray for job opportunities for women who are looking for them and pray for women who are transitioning into a new job. Pray that they would have favor in their workplaces and for extra measures of grace and peace as they step into new environments.

        COLLEGE STATION UPDATE

It’s been nearly 3 months since The Silk Stocking (College Station’s only strip club) closed its doors. While many community members and churchgoers applauded and made comments about the joyous news (chalked up to God’s judgment on the sex industry), we had to frown a bit. Our dear friends were left without jobs and without alternatives.

Thankfully, Jesus is bigger than a club’s closed doors. Soon after, our team had a “town hall” meeting to discuss “what’s next?” with our friends from the club. Since this meeting, we have seen 35% of those women step back into a church for the first time in a long time. We have begun working with various professional women throughout BCS to become “Alliance Partners” who directly work with former dancers to awaken hope and empower change in their new lives. We are continuing to walk through the transition with these women, and God continues to provide. Here are a few quotes from our Alliance Partners...

"You don't know how much of a blessing this has been to us! I've never seen this much gratitude towards me in my life. We are truly grateful for the help!" I was able to share about how we love her and how much more Christ loves her and her family. -JSL Alliance partner
“I was astounded at how open and vulnerable she was with me upon our first meeting. It was humbling how quickly she opened up to me. She was precious and I got to tell her over and over how she is a good mom. She was clearly emotional and was weeping as she said thank you. She confessed that she is lonely and wants friends. I'm so hopeful for this new season ahead of her and thankful to walk alongside of her.” -JSL Alliance Partner
“The power of someone who stays is love with skin on. It took a messy few weeks, but once R knew that I was staying in her life no matter what, she told me her story. As she told her story through tears and screams, it was as if loads of chains fell to the ground from both of us. Her exact words after sharing her story with me, "I've never felt so light." And I replied, "Me too." I think the power of love must be when anyone says to us, "me too." We started as struggling strangers, now we belong together as struggling friends. Thank you JSL for the opportunity to belong to love in the most powerful way.” -JSL Alliance Partner

The girls are really expectant, their faces light up when they see us and catch us up on the details of their lives. One of our Club Team members (a teacher) and was able to connect with a dancer who has aspirations to also be a teacher!

Over 12 different churches have risen up from our community to help in the process. 24 women are serving as “Alliance Partners”, reaching out and walking with former employees through this transition. Through the relationship, the Dixie Fund, and various community and spiritual resources, we are seeing lives impacted. We are seeing faces and families as they experience hope and change!

        DALLAS UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 200 stockings were delivered to dancers in Dallas
        • 2 new clubs allowed our teams to come in, totalling 6 clubs
        • 1 fully Spanish-speaking team is now serving a club
        • 52 diverse club team members entered the clubs
        • 14 new guys joined our Security Team
        • 17 churches now represent the volunteer base of JSL Dallas
        • 1 dancer asked for help transitioning out of the club

        Story:

December was the launch of many new things in Dallas. We had the privilege of adding 2 new clubs to the list we enter monthly. JSL Dallas created 6 teams of 8 women who would enter the same club each month, fostering and deepening relationships. These new teams will allow JSL to have more time in the clubs and opportunities for regular connections outside the club with dancers.

As we approached management of the 2 new clubs, we were not sure what we would face.

At the first club, the manager's initial reaction was “No!” He was hesitant of church groups entering the clubs. As we began to talk, he remembered that we had met at The EXXXotica Convention in Dallas months prior. In an instant, his demeanor changed. Because JSL was willing to be a part of that convention, he trusted us. He saw that we were not the groups of people who had judged him...and the walls of his heart came tumbling down! He hugged me, gave me his information, and said he would see us in a week! God’s favor continues to pour itself out on JSL, because we present the gospel in complete love.

The last club manager responded with open arms. Our Spanish Club Team leader was able to share her heart and ask permission for the first time. This manager’s response will stick with us; “Any group that is willing to come into our club and love our dancers is welcome here. Thank you for what you do. These girls need love.”

        Prayer Needs:

        • Relationships outside the club would continue to grow
        • All new team members stay grounded in the Word and are able to love dancers well
        • Security Team would continue to grow.
        • Financial support for 2016 would flourish

        HOUSTON UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 3 Houston clubs gave us permission to come in
        • 145 Christmas stockings were delivered to dancers
        • 9 gift cards and shirts were given to managers, bouncers, and parking attendants
        • 8 women on our Club Team and 3 men from our Security Team experienced the clubs for the first time

        Story:

Our first outreach to Houston clubs could not have gone better! We delivered beautiful Christmas stockings to the women, which were filled with pajama pants, fuzzy socks and “Jesus Loves Strippers” t-shirts. The response was overwhelming. The women loved the gifts and we heard over and over, “I can’t believe this!”, “This is so nice!”, “Thank you so much!” My favorite question, though, is when the dancers ask, “Why?” We are able to explain to them, “We want you to know that you are loved. Jesus really loves you.” One girl remarked, “You guys have so much genuine joy. We don’t have that in here...thank you for coming.”

Our Security Team was also able to engage managers and bouncers in conversation outside of the clubs. God opened the door for intentional conversations almost immediately!

A special thank you to the women at Grand Parkway Baptist Church for making the beautiful Christmas stockings, and Cathy Pugh for her contribution, which purchased the pajama pants for each dancer!

        Prayer Needs:

        • We would continue to build trust and rapport with dancers, management, and staff at each club
        • Provision for more church partnerships and monthly outreach sponsors.
        • More opportunities to share Jesus Said Love in Houston

        KILEEEN UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 40 stockings stuffed with body spray, pajama bottoms, and candy were given to dancers
        • 35 purple “Jesus Loves Strippers” shirts were gifted
        • 5 Christmas popcorn tins were given to bouncers and managers
        • 30 lbs of Rudys BBQ were enjoyed in the club

        Story:

As December’s outreach approached, the Lord spoke the word “comfort” to me. Even in the clubs, while so much chaos is surrounding us, we know comfort because Christ came. We prayed for this comfort heading into outreach and shortly after we arrived, I dancer I had never met before came up to me and said, “Can I talk to you real quick?” She pulled me aside from the other girls and began to cry as she told me about her friend that passed away that morning. She explained that this friend was a believer and her family had always been so kind to her. She specifically asked me to pray for comfort for her friend’s family. How beautiful it was to hold her hands and go before the Father with her! He works it all together for his glory.

        Needs:

        • Outreach gift sponsors for upcoming months
        • Prayers for more time with dancers outside of the club.
        • Financial support for city budget

        December City Updates

        COLLEGE STATION Update

        Snapshot:

        • 24 homemade pies and 20 gift bagswere donated by New Life Baptist Church
        • Dancers received body spray, umbrellas, encouragement notes, and a delicious meal
        • We met 2 women who were brand new to the industry

        Story:

In November, we decided to go later in the evening with hopes to interact with more women. It was a success! Not only did we meet two new girls, we also connected with several others who have been traveling to work at our club. This created great opportunity to share more about who we are and why we exist. One dancer even said, “Y’all are the nicest people I have ever met.” We quickly explained that it’s not us, it’s our God. While we often receive some pushback from a male staff or veteran dancers, this month contained only healthy conversation. The open air allowed women to open up about more spiritual and physical needs.

        Needs:

        • Volunteers: specifically on Prayer Team, Hospitality Team, and Security Team.
        • Pray for job opportunities for our women and men that desire to leave the industry.
        • Pray for emotional and spiritual balance in the holida

        San Antonio Update

        Snapshot:

        • 51 Thanksgiving pies were delivered to dancers
        • 1 new Prayer Team member joined us this month

        Story:

I was so excited as we prepared for November’s outreach. We were expecting so many homemade pies! However, due to an unfortunate circumstance, we ended up having to purchase grocery-store pies. I was so discouraged, I almost forgot about the reason we are really there: to love these women right where they are. They were so excited to receive the gift...but they were even more excited to talk to us.

As we offered one dancer a pie, she asked the question so many have asked: “Why do you guys do this?”  We told her that we just have a desire to love them, to do what the church may have overlooked before. From there, she opened up, while we just listened without judgment. Even in the midst of the chaos, God brought peace and let me know that it’s not about the pies or gifts...it’s about LOVE. The details get us in the door, but love opens the heart of communication.

         Prayer Needs:

        • Continued opportunities to deepen our relationship with each dancer
        • Wisdom and provision for the women transitioning out of the industry
        • As our volunteers number grows, pray for church partnerships

        KILLEEN Update

        Snapshot:

        • 45 pies were given to dancers and waitresses
        • 4 Club Team members visited the dressing room
        • 5 boxes of fudge were gifted to bouncers and managers

        Story:

This month, I felt a restlessness about our time in the club. As we were passing out pies, a massive bouncer walked in the dressing room and told me the manager wanted to see me. “This is it”, I thought to myself. He’s going to tell us we can’t come back anymore. My mind immediately ran to the worst-case scenario. To my surprise, the manager looked up from a stack of papers and joyfully exclaimed, “Oh hey! I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving and we’re so glad you’re here. How are things going? Do you need anything from me?”

I always find myself amazed at the way the Lord removes my doubt. I am so thankful for the ways God has moved in dancers’ lives this year and for the kind of relationships he has built with us and this club. I’m thankful he makes a home in us and provides. He always does.

...also, a huge thank you to the Vista Women’s Ministry and First United Methodist Church Temple for meeting a need: reaching our Dixie Fund goal for this year!

        Waco Update

        Snapshot:

        • 60 homemade pies made by Harris Creek were delivered to 3 clubs
        • Met 8 new women
        • Passed out 30 Toy Store Applications
        • Posted Christmas Party flyers in all 3 clubs
        • 1 new Club Team member and Security Team member joined us

        Story:

First, I want to thank Harris Creek (who baked the 60 delicious homemade pies we delivered)! The women and the staff couldn’t believe all of them were homemade! These homemade pies communicated that each dancer is worth the invested time and love.

In hopes of reaching more dancers, we went into the clubs later in the evening than usual this month. It was a strategic success! We were given the privilege of hearing new stories, and our team was able to surround one woman in the dressing room to pray for breakthrough in her life. It was a beautiful night!

        Needs:

        • Volunteers: specifically Prayer Team, Babysitter’s Club, Hospitality Team, and Security Team. Email Kellie@jesussaidlove.com if you are interested!
        • Pray for job opportunities for women who are transitioning out of the industry
        • Pray that transitioned women would have favor in their workplaces and pray for extra measures of grace and peace as they step into new environments.

        DALLAS Update

        Snapshot:

        • 200 homemade pies were delivered to 4 clubs in Dallas
        • 6 new connections made with club management, security, & valets
        • 1 club allowed pies to be delivered to dancers after never allowing food before
        • 2 new Club Team Leaders experienced the clubs for the first time

        Story:

This past month, pies built relationships. Who knew a pie could carry mounds of love? Pies opened doors, broke down walls and sprung new conversations.

One club in particular has never allowed our team to bring in food inside. Our Prayer Team interceded that these pies would be received. As we pulled into the parking lot, we offered the valet a pie. Not only was it received, he sent our drivers to the front row spot to park! The car was surrounded by parking and security staff, picking out a pies and engaging in conversation. For the first time in a year, this club welcomed our security team. Not only did the General Manager allow us to bring all the pies in, he stopped to tell us about his family and we were able to send him home with his son’s favorite pie.

The gospel came tonight in the form of pies. I am expectant that the qualities of Jesus will continue to be shared through the conversations that were nurtured around the table on Thanksgiving in Dallas.

         Prayer Needs:

        • Pray that relationships in Dallas would continue to grow and flourish

        November City Updates

        San Antonio Update

        Snapshot:

        • 75 bags filled will Mary Kay products
        • 2 new members joined Prayer Team
        • 2 new women went out with us on Club Team
        • 75 McDoubles were purchased with a 10% discount, and our women loved them

        Story:

With such terrible weather on this month’s outreach, we expected to have a low volunteer turnout. The Lord had other things in store! Many eager new volunteers joined the Prayer Team and stayed the duration of the outreach.

The women were excited to see us...the food and gifts were received very well as usual! I love that no matter how elaborate or simple the gifts may seem, our ladies accept them with such joy.

Our new Houston CTL Sally joined our outreach this month. Sally was even able to network with one of the club managers about getting into a new club in Houston. It was encouraging to hear him speak good things about JSL.

         Prayer Needs:

        • Continued opportunities to deepen our relationship with each dancer
        • Wisdom and provision for the women transitioning out of the industry
        • Church partnerships to strengthen as our volunteers number grows

        DALLAS UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 150 Fall candles were delivered to dancers in the clubs.
        • We encountered 10-15 new girls in each club
        • 2 new guys joined Security Team for their first outreach
        • 1 dancer stopped the team for prayer outside the club
        • 1 local non-profit, Restored Hope, provided the gifts for outreach

        Story:

This month, I had the opportunity to rest. As the City Team Leader, I stayed back during outreach, confident in the Club Team’s leadership. The women did not disappoint. While the last few months have been slow on outreach nights, this month was the opposite. One of our team members summed it up; “God showed up and showed off tonight!”

“There were lots of new girls. It seemed like God put several women specifically in our path on purpose, especially the girl that we ran into outside one of the clubs. She was intoxicated but very grateful to see us. We got to validate her & pray for her. She wouldn't stop hugging us!“  - Kristen Benton

“I was really blessed by listening to other club team members talk to girls. These days I find myself frustrated about things some Christians say, but I was so encouraged hearing my fellow Club Team members talk about life, faith, and Jesus to dancers in a loving and truthful way.” - Lindsey Koch

I am honored to serve women in the clubs and honored to serve alongside the women on the Dallas club team.

        City Needs:

        • 100 more pajama pants for Christmas stockings
        • $2000 raised to cover ‘Jesus Loves Strippers’ shirts for dancers in Christmas stockings
        • 46 new club team members in December
        • 14 new security team members in December
        • 2 new clubs allow us to enter
        • CTL personal financial support

        COLLEGE STATION UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 20 bags filled with candles, pumpkin spice foot scrub, treats, and encouragement cards were given to dancers.
        • Homemade chili, cornbread, and cupcakes were given to all club employees
        • 8 local churches and 2 TAMU student organizations were supported this outreach.

        Story:

Going into the club is just a piece of our interaction with the club employees each month. As we build longstanding relationships, we continue to meet outside the clubs and learn how to provide resources for our women (and their kids!). This month, our Security Team was also able to listen and to pray with two male club employees.

As relationships and trust continues to build, we get the opportunity to meet physical and spiritual needs...including children’s clothing, materials for job interviews, “Jesus Storybook Bible” and “Jesus Calling” devotional books, meals, coffee, and professional counseling sessions, among others. I believe this is just the beginning of God awakening hope and empowering change in Bryan/College Station.

        Prayer Needs:

        • Provision for women that need assistance through Dixie Fund and employment
        • Rest (emotionally, physically and spiritually) for employees, former employees, and JSL leadership
        • Strengthened relationship with management at the club
        • More men to join our Security Team
        • Wisdom for leadership as we seek God’s direction for the needs in BCS

        killeen UPDATE

        Snapshot:

        • 30 candles were gifted to dancers
        • 4 Club Team members visited the dressing room
        • 2 Chick-Fil-A nugget trays were quickly devoured!

        Story:

Fear was a bully this month, pushing me around and making me feel small...whispering, “It’s just not going to work out.” And it seemed to be true. The pieces that normally fly together at the last minute simply weren’t doing so. The great wind and the pouring rain the week of outreach was a reflection of my spirit: wild and frantic. How often I forget when “The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the Earth melts.” (Psalm 46:6) He is in control, always. Of course, October’s outreach was joyful and we were able to see so many answered prayers.

        City Needs:

        • Our goal for Temple/ Killeen is to have $1,000 in the Dixie Fund by the end of the year. If you’re interested in helping make that happen please click here!
        • If you are interested in having your small group/ church learn more about ways to be involved with JSL in Temple/ Killeen, please e-mail me at Laurenr@jesussaidlove.com
