Although we are not to the outreach stage in Temple/Killeen yet, God has been moving through JSL in amazing ways. I experience such excitement and joy when I sit down with people in the community and share with them the radical vision of Jesus Said Love.
Naturally, many of my meetings with the community involve food and drink, whether we’re sitting down with a cup of coffee or (like last night) laughing around a beautiful dessert bar (thank you, Stephanie Covington!). During the serious and joyful meetings, I’m vividly reminded of the kingdom-language Christ uses to describe his dining table. In scripture, Christ speaks lovingly of eating and drinking with His people at His table.
“For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. 29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” -- Luke 22:27-30
I think about the beauty of this passage each time I meet with someone to talk about the work of JSL. These are divine meetings. Sharing God’s heart for the lost through JSL is just a small glimpse into life around God’s table. In that life, I see myself sitting at that banquet table in the presence of our Heavenly Father with those I met in this journey: donors, supporters, co-laborers, and former dancers. That is what JSL is all about.
As we prepare for our first Killeen outreach in December, I am overwhelmed with excitement and support from my community in this city. I am looking for both monthly and one-time gifts. My goal is to have $10,000 raised by July 28th. While I know that this is entirely possible, it can still feel overwhelming at times. Besides financial support, I am looking to fill two leadership positions, gather volunteers, and connect with other nonprofits and community resources in the area. Join with me in prayer as God continues to work and move in Temple and Killeen!
