From City Team Leader Michelle:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Rom 15:13 ESV
Without hope, we will die. Without hope, the world around us looks impossible to face. During a time when I had no hope, God gave me this scripture. I am now passionate about awakening hope. I have it tattooed on my wrist along with the word LOVE. This month, God brought me back to this scripture and highlighted the word “abound.”
Abound: to be abundantly furnished with, to have in abundance, abound in (a thing), to be in affluence.
“Abound” is used in the same context when Jesus miraculously multiplied the five loaves and two fish. It says in Matthew, “and they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces.” God doesn’t just want to awaken hope so the girls can have a taste. He wants to fill them with so much hope that it spills over to the people in their lives. He wants them to be abundantly furnished with hope. Just typing about it right now gets me so excited! This is has been my cry and my prayer this month for the girls in San Antonio clubs…….they would filled with ALL JOY and PEACE and they would ABOUND in HOPE. So in your time with Jesus, please pray for HOPE in this city. We have the power to awaken hope in every area of San Antonio.
For JSL, July has been our “Sabbath” month concerning outreaches. We do not go into the clubs in July, but still pursued the girls we minister to. It has been a month during which we focus on what He wants to do the rest of the year, a month of rest and family and remembering the core of this wonderful thing we do: Jesus. Without Him, this would all just be a nice gesture. We would encourage you to pray with us for the remainder of the outreaches. August is our Back to School outreach. This outreach is incredibly special because we not only get to love on the girls, but we also have the chance to reach their kids. We give the dancers an opportunity to share a story of God’s love with their kids. God doesn’t want to change the lives of these dancers alone, but also the generations to come. While we understand this can not be accomplished by the mere gift of school supplies, it is a tool and a seed we plant that will one day spring up a plant of life.
I am always encouraged by the willingness of volunteers. We needed gift cards for school supplies and within a matter of minutes of putting it on Facebook, we had half a dozen people saying, “I’m in!” So I want to take a minute and thank ALL the people that make our outreaches possible, whether it be a bible study, community group, entire church or individual friends who want to show a piece of God’s love. There is no small gift in this ministry. It reminds me of the widow in the Bible who gave all she had. Maybe you feel like all you can give is one lipstick, and even that is followed by an apology. Let me tell you today that it could be that one lipstick that sparks a conversation with a dancer. Maybe she just ran out or LOVES that color! That one gift could be an open door into her world through which we have the opportunity to say, “Jesus loves you this much!” Thank you, Thank you, Thank you from the bottom of the San Antonio team’s heart. Your gift is NEVER too small.
Announcements: We are still looking for some key volunteers:
Volunteer Coordinator - coordinates all volunteers and communicates with other leaders to schedule all the areas.
Bag Assembly lead - If you are creative, love packaging gifts, or collecting donations is something you love…..this is for you!!
Prayer Team - this is a very strategic group of people that are willing to pray for 2 - 3 hours on the night of our outreach, during the outreach. Prayer is crucial to what we do.
We are also always looking for people to bake, stuff bags and other things that come up. Please contact us if you would like to help out in any way!
